Kaard l w w 4 w N The citizen's arm of control and responsibility in the Grand County School District, the school board, has emerged with interested and cooperative leadership to achieve what seems best for your education. Many problems have faced this board, perhaps more than in the history of GCHS, and they have attempted to meet and solve these problems realistically. We should be proud of these leading citizens, interested in the future of Moab youth. Left to right, C,R. Sundwall, superin- tendentg Ralph Griffin, memberg Mrs. Erma Wimmer, clerk-treasurer, John Keogh, presidentg LG. Pinkerton, memberg Mrs. Erma Newell, memberg and Chester Brostrom, member. As We kcmembcr Him . . . No man is an island . . . . . . Send not for whom the bell tolls, It tolls for thee. John Dorme wrote this poem centuries ago. ln our time, a man who seemed ito know and live the meaning of this poem to the fullest graced- our pres- ence. Dr. A. Ray West, former President of the Board of Education, was a man of many interests, a man ringing with enthusiasm for life and the advance- ment of our civilization. His interest in the stu- dents of Grand County School District transcended the material world. His service to his community, his pleasing personality, even unto his last days, his recognition of the true meaning of friendship, his professional excellence as a dentist, and his de- votion to his family are a part of the living mem- ory of Dr. West. May the achievements of this man be burned into our existence as an example of the results of educative processes in our society. The MOGRANDAH staff proudly dedicares this page to the memory of a great person. p 7 rinczjmzl If I could go back a good many years and plan my high school career once again. I can think of a good many things I would like to do differently. I think I would have more fun--but in a more reasonable way. I think I might look earlier and closer to discover the wisdom and real concem of some of my teachers--facts I recognize a few years late. I think I would take a closer look at myself and plan accord- inglyg Our problems are somewhat alike, yours and mine. I can't go back and live it over again, and neither can you. The difference is that my opportunity was THEN. Yours is NOW, Rex Douglas, Principal Perhaps Mr. Leonard doesn't always look this way when he 's just caught you sluffing, but his per- formance as assistant prin- cipal has been invaluable to GCHS this year. Besides his teaching duties, he has had to assist students on the merits of attending school regularly and getting to class on time, a lesson we could all learn to our ad- vantage. Offcc 4 I Q Behind the smiling faces and friendliness X existing in the GCHS office this year, we find a complex and difficult operation at p work every day. Mrs. Jean Shatley, pic- , tured at the left, has been one of the major factors in keeping the school operating this 1 year. Mrs. Shatley at times seemed to 1 have the ability to do ten things at once ' and still keep everyone happy. . y v Student help hasi also been in- valuable in the offiqe this year. Students volunteer their services to aid the office. Pictured left to right are Sandy Bisco, Katie Brock, Andrea Lawrence, Jeannie..David- son, Barbara Charles, Dorothy Campus and Linda Buchanan. Nor shown: Lorraine Baker, Linda New- man, Cheryl'Holyoak, Margaret Boulden, Sharon Jackson, Linda King, Kathy Branscom, Gurneth Slavens. 1 I 1 Superintendent On the pages of this book are depicted events at Grand County High School for the school year, 1964-65. Pages full of the excitement. Pages bringing in pleasure to each student as he sees pictured on them the faces of friends. Pages creating poignant nostalgia in their graphic presentation of a year now gone. But the contents of this yearbook are more than just the history of a year ended. It is a book symbolizing the completion of a year and at the same time serving as a prel- ude to one to come. A milestone for the sophomore and junior marking advancement in the series of educational steps. For the senior, it is now the closing of an era from which he will progress into the new. For all, and as itshould be, this yearbook places into memory the successes of the year leaving, the failures an unheralded part of the past. We congratulate every student of Grand County High School for the successes they achieved. Successes as they are rightfully acclaimed in Mograndah, 1965. C. Robert Sundwall if-K Vai? Jim k ,,-xg ww! Dedication Mr. Ken Wilson, music instructor at the High School last year, was well-liked by his students and his fellow faculty mem- bers. His concern for the student was always foremost in his mind. His talents in music were innumerable and he was able to convey a keen sense of the musical art to his students. School had just completed for the 1963-64 year, when Mr. Wilson met his destiny in an automobile accident near Delta, Colorado. Many GCI-IS students remember and respect him well. His family surviving him may be proud of the accomplish- ments he made in the school district. The MOGRANDAH staff proudly dedicates this page to the memory of Mr. Wilson.
