The nominations are numerous as the students begin to consider the possibilities that confront them. Characteristics such as personality, testimony, love and spirit always play an important roll in the decision. Upon thinking of these characteristics, we feel that the person we have chosen stands among the great ones who have previously attained the goals embedded in these things so important in life. Personality can be compared to the brilliant glowing Arizona sunshine which casts an array of golden color on every cloud that enters the horizon, flashing beauty from every shadow, ' just as the ethereal song of a bird convinces one that the bird IS a bird, the testimony of this one assures us that she IS a DEDICATED CHRISTIAN! Her love is comparable to the devotion of the fragrant odor to its owner, the freshly bloomed rose, still glistening, dew-ladened, in the early morning sunlight. This love comes from many tiny rivulets that begin far back in the centers of love for home, life, people, her school, and pai-amountly, her love for GOD. The spirit with which she lives her life is filled with the willingness to help, to lead, or to do it alone--with no praise expected. Any job, no matter how insignificant or how important, demands and receives full attention until it gets a satisfactory nod of the head. All of these characteristics, sheltered by a philosophy that is effervescent with the objectives of devotedly living Christ in all areas of life itself, make us believe that our decision was a good one. So we, the staff of the 1960 Canyon Trails, dedicate This Annual To You .... :DIL Vem W CEDLIIQUL A lm M M W W' I f 1 xg .fy A-W Y V 4 A if va 'x I . J'1i:,g5:'rz, anc- . PATTERSON President Grand Canyon College mlllllllw PRESlDENT'S MESSAGE It has been said of all great institutions, as they grew in size, wealth, and power, that they also developed a spirit of their own. I have discovered such a spirit here at Grand Canyon College. Everyone I have talked to in this section about our College has a love and appreciation for the past, present, and future of the school. The Trustees, without exception, show a spirit of loyalty and dedication to the work they have been called to in helping to guide the destiny of Grand Canyon College. Faithfulness and sacrifice are the two words that describe the spirit of our wonderful faculty. Sornc have been here from the beginningg others have come along later, but all show their love for this God-given task. The future of Grand Canyon College is as bright as God's sunshine, and as certain as His pro- mises. It is a thrilling experience to work with a student body such as yours, that has caught this spirit of love and devotion to such a wonderful task, Faithfully yours, , J 4 if Eugene N. Part of Freshman Orientation, the All School Welcome party, Work Day, Canyon Cove, the A11 School Picnic, Mom and Dad's Day, the All School Christmas Party, the Hanging of the Greens, the Thanksgiving and other assemblies, High School Senior Day, and the Spring Festival were planned carefully by the Council at retreats and at their regular weekly meetings. In addition to these major activities, Council members also assumed many other responsibilities for campus life and worked unselfishly for the Student Association. y W I l A Tuesday session COUNCIL CLASS REPRESENTATIVES. October 12-16 saw a great spirit envelop the campus of Grand Canyon College, as Spiritual Emphasis Week was observed. Dr. Chester E, Swor well-known conference leader was the lecturer throughout this week. The main objective of this inspiring time was to bring all students to a fuller understanding of themselves. Some of the subjects Dr. Swor chose to present were on success, remembering the cross, our attitudes toward sin in life, the courage with which we live, our wit- ness and service, life's most important organiza- tions, relationship of individuals to every phase of life, God's will for our lives and the two gardens of Eden and Gethsemane. Services were held both in the mornings and at night. Fol- lowing the evening services there were brain- storming sessions wherc students were able to participate in a question and answer period. All who had a part in the planning or in just at- tending this week of inspiration and challenge were fully blessed and 'in some way encouraged to seek closer fellowship with God and his fel- lowman. Although the season this year was not as perfect a record as was witnessed last year, the team showed as many hard fought games as has ever been seen on the campus. Wlith only five returning lettermen as a nucleus, Coach Brazell formed the new recruits around them and came out with a. little atom that smashed many teams into outer orbit. With a standing record of 24 consecutive wins, the BIG TEAM took five more, before suffering an unwelcomed defeat to Arizona State College of Flagstaff. This took the win record up to 29, a mighty big record for such a new school. After sailing easily over Luke and Adams State the Antelopes slowed slightly, and squeezed by Eastern New 168 Mexico University. Then two m'0r6 defeats were experienced before the Antelopes regained their footing and scored the season's high, against Williams with 101 points. Shortly thereafter, the Canyon squad moved into New Mexico and Colorado where they suffered a four game roadtrip defeat. Two of the games were overtime plays, and the entire four games were lost by a total of 19 oints. After the final defeat of the season, the Antelopes finished with four wins. The record for the season's lay finally stood at 13 wins and 8 losses. One thing must Ee remembered: the team played several teams this year they had never played before, and against these bigger schools, came out with a good show of spirit and sportsmanship. So, once again, Antelopes, we salute you with a big Yea, Team! Wlzlllll lliilllllllllll 'iii nb OPE Alizmni LaVerne College Claremont College San Fernando St. Cal. Baptist Ariz. State Col.
