Across it passes the most historic road in the world, the one linking Palestine and Egypt. Beside this road, along which the Holy Family once travelled fleeing into Egypt is a railroad whose crack train is the Milk and Honey Express Opened in 1869 the Suez Canal is 103 miles long. lt connects the Med with the Red Sea. This canal has been the life line of the British Empire.
