This couple chosen by the Senior Class led the Grand March later in the evening. Students and guests danced to the music of Dick Benson and his Orchestra. Carrying out the theme of Moonlight and Roses were decorations which featured a rustic bridge across a trickling brook. A blooming magnolia tree added greatly to the charm of the theme. Behind a white fence clustered with red roses were bright colored evergreens. A wall painted to resemble brick, gave final touches to the garden atmosphere. Refreshments were served on the balcony, which was also decorated in accordance with the theme. Students Marge Tune and Mary Hutchison served as chairmen of the Prom Committees. Chaperones were: Mr. and Mrs. Carleton Bates, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Pepper, Mr. and Mrs. Al Leary, Miss Hazel Dowd, Mrs. Betty Ire- lan, Mr. and Mrs. Don McCloy, and Mr. Marvin Hoppert. On February 9. the gymnasium of Grand Blanc High was transformed from its bright and barren everyday appear- ance to a softly-lighted moonlight scene. with a galaxy of glistening stars completing the 'Stardust' theme. Glen Olm- stead and his orchestra provided music for the traditional Junior-sponsored dance, the J-Hop. The Juniors were rewarded for their hard work in the fund-raising campaign when, at the highpoint of the eve- ning, Bill Yerkey and Lorna Lawson were crowned King and Queen of the J-Hop by class president, Bob Burek. Supervising the enthusiastic effort of the juniors were the committee chairmen, Carol Biggam, Ann Sullivan, jack Miller, Sandra Burgess, and janet Stevens, directing the theme, publicity, tickets, decoration, and refreshment com- mittees, respectively. The willing aid and advice of Mr. Kerensky, Junior Spon- sor, proved invaluable in making their first big project of the year a laudable success. The Bobcats' 1956 Varsity baseball team enjoyed a very good season with a second place berth in the county league. A total of sixteen games were played. of which only three were lost. The teatn had depth in every position and there was tnuch friendly rivalry between players. Coach l'itock guided the boys, working closely with them and building their contidence. Five Bobcats were placed on the All County team. They were: Don Gratsch. George Winter. Dale Lepage. ,lack Vivian. and Eugene Hubbard. The few games lost by the Bobcats were very close. Class A Owosso defeated the Bobcats by a single run in the last inning. Grand Blanc. however, reversed the score in their second encounter with Owosso and won by a single run. The Goodrich game provided plenty of entertainment for the Bobcat players as they romped to a total of 26 runs against their opponents 7. Grand Blanc had many close games which caused Coach Pitock to hold his breath. Iiugene Hubbard once missed a sign and knocked in two runs to win the game. Individual scoring on the team was very high. Dale Lepage led with a .440 average followed by Don Gratsch, George Winters, Iiugene Hubbard, and Bob Suci who hit .367, 305, .342, and .314 respectively. ,. f 'Q Grand Blanc Bobcats Placed J . Varied Programs for the Enjo ment of All Few people realize the number of hours of concentrated practice that goes into a program given by the A Cappella Choir. Under the capable direction of Mr. David Ryan, this group has given numerous public performances, including singing at P. T. A. meetings and at the Christmas and Spring Concerts given by the music department. Among the main activities of the group this year were the sacred concerts given at the invitation of Grand Blanc. Flint and Atlas Churches. A highlight was the presentation. on May 3rd, of the opera The Lowland Sea , a modern American tragedy by Alec Wilder4Libretto by Arnold Sundgaard. They also participated in the Choir Festival held in Fenton where each choir was judged for two selec- tions. The students were given the thrilling musical exper- ience of singing in a massed chorus composed of all the schoolichoirs. Choir oflicers were: Douglas Green, Presidentg Sharon Robertson, Vice-President: janet Silver, Secretary-Trea- surerg and Suzette Carpenter, Student Council Represen- tative. The other musical groups at Grand Blanc are the Girls' and Boys' Glee Clubs and the Triple Trio under the direc- tion of Mr. Myles Harriman. Participation in these groups aid in developing future voices for choir. This year the Glee Clubs and Trio presented a modern musical program of popular numbers. They also sang at the choir festival in Fenton and the Eighth Grade Choir joined with the Girls' Glee Club for the judging. ,gg t W fp 4 A 4149:-F ,,,h gg, ROW 1: Judy Henderson, Angela Birmingham, Ann Marie Craig, janet Benner, Nancy Selleck Dianne Mills, Carol Buel, Yiolet Satkowiak, Audrey Forlmush. Besides striving to recognize scientiiic and social opportunities, and make the most of their abilities, they also learn to conserve farm and home resources and to appreciate nature. Bill Mechem, one of the outstanding members of the Grand Blanc group, was chosen by the county organization to attend the International Livestock Exposition in Chicago during Thanksgiving vacation.
