Career Highlights Coach Tom VVilliams has developed one world record holder in the 200 meter dash, and a 440-yd. relay team that tied world marks three times in 1964. AA . uewii,-5 He has tutored five NAIA champions X and six All-Americans. 4514213 Williams 'lallting with a Reporter The track renaissance that Coach Tom Williams promised for several years produced national headlines for Gramb- ling during the spring and brought delight to the hearts of old grads everywhere. Tiger 440 and 880 relay teams enjoyed an undisturbed monopoly and tied the world 440 record before a national TV audience in California in early April. Three times during the year they equalled the mark of 40.0 flat. Don Meadows, Vernus Ragsdale, Richard Stebbins and Don Owens recorded the best time in the world in both the 440 and 880 in '64. Stebbins is envisioning a trip to the Olympics after qualifying in both the 100 and 200 meters, and running on the 400 meter relay team in the US-USSR duel meet. Williams claims his resurrected Tigers will not stand aloof from championship talk in the SWAC in future years. He has the makings of a championship contender. All he needs is luck and a few more horses.
