If that is a source of pride, Jones' con- tributions to the development of the school's sports program, particularly to baseball, are similarly impressive. His teams have won 379 games and lost 59 since the second World War. More than a dozen Grambling baseball stars have signed bonus contracts, amounting to roughly S275,000 to turn professional. Tonight's honor is one more in a long list for the president-coach. Last year. the American Association of College Baseball Coaches cited him for a quarter of a century of leadership and devotion to college baseball Last year, Jones guided his Tigers to the runner- up position in the NAIA collegiate World Series here. This week, they'll make another stab at the big prize. You'll see Mr. Jones in the coaching box at third base. He's as at home there as he is behind his college president's desk. Secretly, he just may enjoy the baseball assign- ment the most. NAIA Baseball Hall of Fame Selections COACHES l i Year Honored Rankin Williams, Southwestern Okla. GRAMBLING PHOTO Heap Big Smile Orioles Sign John Wyatt Speedy John Wyatt of Grambling, who generates ooh's and aah's with his fielding, hitting and dazzling efforts on the base path, signed a bonus contract with the Baltimore Orioles. The promising 21-year-old outfielder was assigned to Bluefield, W. Va., of the Appalanchian League. No bonus figure was an- nounced. An effortless performer with an accurate throwing arm, W3'att led Grambling in stolen bases, hits and total lmses. He gets clown the line in 3.8 seconds. Quite logically, he was voted the team's most valuable player in the recent NAIA national tournament where the Tigers advanced into the finals for the second straight year. Wyatt is described as having enormous potential. Assistant Coach Frank Ensley said, He runs, throws and hits with exuberance. Along with his speed, Ensley added tliat, Wyatt possesses remarkable reflexes and confidence that enables him to turn sure hits into routine outs. Wyatt hits left and throws right. He batted .321 in 30 games. The artful 182-pound athlete is a recent graduate with a BS. degree in health and physical education.
