CAREER RECORD: Won 213, Lost 35 1963-64 Home Attendance 58,799 COACH FRED HOBDY Ever since 1956 when Coach Fred I-Iobdy moved his desk into the cage cubbyhole at Grambling College, the Tigers have been the closest bet to a sure thing in basketball. In eight seasons he has compiled an incredible 213-35 won-loss record in the tough Southwestern Athletic Con- ference. Hobdy has won one NAIA national title, one Mid-West and four SWAC championships while developing six small- college All-Americans. I-le was named NAIA Coach-of-the-Year in 1963 by Basketball Writers of America. A serious-minded perfectionist, he seems to improve his handicraft each season. Rival coaches claim that he seldom makes the same mistake twice. I-Iobdy has a mature, quiet and sound approach to his job. I-Iis race-horse attack is one of the most interesting and imaginative in basketball and his coaching inventiveness is the one big reason why Grambling played before 58,799 fans in 13 home games this season. :lim Duplantier, a star forward on the 1960 team, is completing his first full season as assistant coach after a two year stint in the army. He is a hard worker with a keen, analytical mind. Like Hobdy, Duplantier holds an M.A. degree from the State University of Iowa.
