Presidenf Jones has speni' mosf of his aduli' life building Grambling College and fhe Grambling image. He is an educafor who holds fhe respecf and con- fidence of people everywhere. Sfudenis find him conscienfious and efficienf, yef pafienf and undersfanding. His resolufe, confidenf spirif has enabled him +o build a college fhai' has developed far beyond fhe hopes of ifs mosf ardenf advocafes. The Grambling sfory is an impressive saga of courage, deferminafion, and progress. Grambling was founded on Aug. 4, I90I by fhe Iafe Charles P. Adams, a man robusf in body, aim and soul. He was senf fo Grambling by Boolcer T. Wash- ingfon and sei' fourfh on a courageous venfure wifh such deferminafion and wisdom 'lhai' he esfablished himself indelibly among educafional pioneers. Presidenf Jones' realm of adminisfrafion dafes back fo July I, I936 when Grambling became sfafe supporfed. Under his leadership fhe college has grown and prospered fo a poinf where if is readily recognized, accredifed, and highly respecfed professionally and academically. ln buildings, in qualify of insfrucfion, in variefy of course offerings, in quanfify and qualify of sfaff members, in alhlefic and ofher compefifion, in size and lzind of enrollmenf, in all fhings insfifufionally academic, Grambling represenfs a sfirring sfory. Only I6 years ago fhe school granfed ifs firsf B.S., degree. Since I948 Grambling has graduafed more fhan 7,000 persons who are worlring in counfless iobs foo numerous fo name. When Presidenf Jones fool: office fhe school had I20 sfudenfs and l7 faculfy members. Grambling's appropriafion from fhe sfafe during his firsi' year was S54,000. Today Grambling has an enrollmenf of 3,225 sfudenfs, and a faculfy and sfaff of more fhan 400, including 45 persons holding fhe d'oc'I'oral degree. The currenf appropriafion from fhe sfafe is in excess of S3-million. Grambling has a physical planf consisfing of 38 modern. permanenf buildings, a large farm, spacious campus parking, and an afhlefic field and sfadium wifh a fofal valuafion of S26-million. Throughoui' ifs hisfory Grambling has sfeadfasfly remained concerned' wifh +he individual - his needs, his falenfs, .his hopes and aspirafions, and his social pofenfialifies. This people-cenfered concern has earned fhe college a repufafion as one of fhe nafion's oufsfanding insfifufions. Wifh iob opporfunifies and social goals now affainable which were unfhinlcable a few years ago for individuals capable of meefing increasingly rigid demands, fhe college enrollmeni' is expecfed fo climb fo 7,000 by I975. Grambling has had only fwo presidenfs in ifs 63 year hisfory - Adams fhe founder, and Jones 'ihe builder - and, indeed, everyone who sefs foof on fhe sprawling campus can find in fheir greai' work inspirafion +o reach ouf and live radianfly.
