N. c, May 30, l956 Student Body Grainger High School Kinston, North Carolina Dear Students: As you leaf through the pages of this annual you will remember some of the happiest days of your life. You will recall the Lewilderment of the first few days in the seventh grade but also the thrill of being able to say, HI am in high school.H The pictures of friends will bring oack memories of your first school dance, your first par- ticipation in high school athletics, in band, in glee club and in dramatics. As you will remember, however, high school was not all play. There was always somethingg homework, a test, or an examination to prepare for the next day. Many times you wondered how you would do every- thing you were supposed to do. Yet, it was the mixture of work and play that made your high school days so pleasant. It was the combi- nation of praise and blame that prepared you for life as a citizen of the United States. Many of you accepted your responsibilities and did the oest you could. Some of you did not accept your duties and, therefore, will be handicapped for years to come. To those of you who will not graduate this year, remember that you have a job to do - complete your high'school education. It is an opportunity which is available to the citizens of only a few nations Take advantage of it while you mayg for once you stop, the odds are against your returning to graduate. America needs wetl informed and educated citizens if she is to maintain her standing in the world today. Congratulations to the Annual Staff for such an excellent book and to the Senior Class to whom high school will soon be nothing but a memory. Sincerely, John H. Horne, Principal
