STUUEN The Grainger Hlgh School Student Council IS the governing body of the school. After a colorful campaigning period. the President of the student body is elected by popular vote of the students. This ris- ing senior is chosen in the spring. The other officers are elected by the Student Council members. By democratic voting in home room and class groups, each student has a voice in the election of council OUNC! members. There are six representatives from the senior class. four : from the junior class. two from the sophomore class, one from the freshman class, and one from each home room in grades seven ,ly through twelve. The most active organization in school, this group undertakes many commendable projects each year. Llnder the leadership of President Claudette Butler, this year it adopted a German war orphan, sent delegates to the state-wide Student Council con- vention in Albemarle, put into effect a one-way traffic system on the stairs to help alleviate the crowded conditions of the school, and ran the concession stand for home football games. On the lighter side. it declared official Twirp Seasonf, cliinaxed by a Sadie Hawkins Day Dance, and gave G.H.S. newcomers a party. Continuing a project begun by the Student Government group several years ago, the 1953-1954 Council continued efforts to raise enough money to install an inter- communication system in the school. The proceeds from the faculty play, a farce en- titled Whols Crazy Now? , were contributed to the already sizable fund on hand for the project. 1 First row, left to right: R. Rhodes. R. Broadway. E.
