I.V. Eagles run to set up their defense. The Iunior Varsity Eagles completed their season with a 32-28 win over Concordia. It was their third win in the last four games and it enables them to fin- ish at .500 with a 7-7 record. It was a satisfying year for first year coach Dave Owen. We established our goals early and I felt if we would work as hard as we could everyday we would improve our play each game and have a successful year. After a tough start the 0-3 Eagles rebounded with two straight wins and a second place finish in the Orrick Tournament. Other highlights included a double OT win over Sweet Springs and in upset victory over C10-lj Barstow. The Eagles were led in scoring and rebounding by Del Iohnson who averaged 11 points per game and 8 rebounds. Sophomore Wes Barnett led an improved de- fense in steals and constantly harassed opponents with his quickness and ball handling ability. The improved play of guard Clete Brown, and forwards Eric Cross, Tim Anderson and freshman Brent Thompson contrib- uted greatly to a very rewarding season. Coach Dave Owen BOYS BASKETBALL I 71

Amor. Back Row: Mr. Vanarsdall, Lisa The 1980-81 womens' basketball team was a season to be very proud of. The varsity record of 21-4 was one of the best in school history. The womens' team alsofwent farther in the state tournament than any basketball team in school history. The team was led by five senior captains, Lisa Eichenberger, Val Groves, Cindy Henson, Nancy Kolster, and Tonja Shoffner. Alot of hard work and, time went into making this the best season ever recorded at Grain Valley. Coach Lyngar and I are very proud to have been associated with such a fine group of young la- dies.
