A school tax levy had recently been rejected by the patrons of the Grain Valley, and therefore plans were being made for drastic cuts in the school budget. Such cuts included teachers, classes, and extra-curricular activities. Later it was decided to have a second voting in Iune. This school tax levy passed by an overwhelm- ing majority and erased many fears about the upcoming school year. Since then various improvements have taken place at Grain Valley High School After ten years of growing with the same superin tendent we saw Dr Headley resign from the pos1 t1on Mr Donald Johnson filled the vacancy for the job of superlntendent for most of the 1980 81 scho J.-aff' -Nw, Improvements were made in the way of mainte- nance as walls and doorways were painted, electric- ity was run to the football field, and new carpeting was laid on the stairs of the junior high building. Also, a spraying room was added onto the shop room in order to alleviate dangerous lacquer fumes that had been spreading through the school. Grain Valley purchased three new computers, as computer classes were added to the high school cur- riculum. 1 Grain Valley was not immune to national occurences either. Some cheered when Ronald Reagan was elected as the thirty-seventh president of the United States. But all were exuberant when the 52 American hostages were released from Iran after 444 days in captivity. Indeed, Grain Valley has achieved many successes during the year. Therefore, hot air balloons have been chosen to convey a messagep although We may have had setbacks in the past, Grain Valley is defi- nitely HSOARING HIGHER. 11rW-'rm-f- ee- s . .. , 1 ' FT'5Ilu.. - 'Pm W ,. .fl QI.
