efficient were his methods of furnishing pro- tection to the citizens that Grain Valley was known as the safest city of its size in the United States. Wayne Bellew was running e chain of gro- cery stores, three of them being in Grain Valley. Edgar Neill was e U. S. Senatorg and was happily married--so happily in fact that he was trying to put a bill through Congress to levy a heavy tex on all bachelors. Oliver Droege was Superintendent of Grain Valley High School. Mr. Farley had retired from active work, now merely acting in an ad- visory capacity. Earlene Tate was a famous girls'athletic director and basketball coach in C large cast- ern university. Lennea Benson was a fine lawyer and was running for the office of prosecuting attor- ney. Lorene Elliott was Q famous big game hunter and explorer in Africa. She sent rare and valuable specimens and trophies to the largest museum in the rorld. Rogene Cousins was e dress designer with an office in New York,and made frequent trips to Paris Working out new ideas and patterns. Frances Renick was a writer. She had written several books, and was a regular con- tributor te several magazines. Lucille Corlew was an artist. Sho Wes then over in Europe on e vacation, taking a rest. Her Work was very popular and profit- able. Vera Story had gone to Hollywood four or five years after she graduated from school. After starring in several famous pictures,she had retired and was living in California. I asked about Miss Guthrey, and was in- formed that she had quit teaching a year or so before and his not on a trip around the world. Bob and I decided that the cless of l939 had done well, and were glad to belong to it.
