SENIOR CLASS HISTORY One bright morning in September, twenty very frightened boys and girls entered Grain Valley High School for the first time. That was a year never to be forgotten. Initiation by the hard-hearted Seniors still makes us shiver. The class party was a great event. Ne great honors were bestowed on us, as We were so seared We couldn't do much. From our class, however, came the winner of the declamation contest, Ceeyle Herrington. Our Sophomore year found seventeen lads and lasses enrolled. We had lost one girl to a lucky boy, but gained Ennis Cox. This year we were represented in baseball, basketball, de- bate, declamation, and music. The Wjollyu Juniors started with fourteen, having lost another girl and boy. It didn't take long to come back to standard, as Geneva Patterson and Marjorie Stone joined our band. The Junior play and the Junior-Senior banquet were the highlights of this year, and we were well represented in all activities. We lost UJeepU Patterson, Marjorie Stone, and Hazel Mabry our Senior year, but Jean Boyle and Helene Stark joined us. This year was fill- ed with thrills. Our Senior rings, the play, the Junior-Senior binquct, and graduation, are outstanding in our memories. A new con ereial department was introduced to our school, and a number of our schoolmates enrolled for these subjects. From this department came our news- paper, the staff composed mostly of Seniors. From our class came the basketball cap- tains, Dale Stumpp, and Pauline McQuerryg the declamation winner, Erma Baumgardncrg three of the one-act play cast, the baseball captain, Vern Dodson, team winners in the shorthand and typing contest, and was well represented in music.
