An au courant Wendell Staton shows Monique May the latest fashions. f 57 Most of the sports programs changed drastically at Graham this year. Many old coaches left while new ones came. This resulted in a great change in the philos- ophy and execution of certain sports. De- spite or because of this, more students partcipated in them, and cheered for them than, it seemed, had ever before. The most radical changes probably oc- curred in three sports. The defending State 3-A Champions found their former assistant coach taking the place of their departed mentor. The football team had an entirely new coaching staff to get to know. And the wrestling team fell under a new coach and the curse of BURPlES . Undaunted, members of these, and all, sports strove to succeed with fire and de- termination. The loss and replacement of a principal and several teachers has a profound af- fect on a school. When this happened at Graham this year, it made things a little awkward. lvlr. Dixon had to adjust to lead- ing a high school for the first time, while students had to adjust to a thoroughly different principal than the one they were used to. Everyone got used to new rules and policy changes. This could have caused confusion and conflict, but it didn't. The whole spiri' of the year was exemplified by the way that the faculty and the students took the changes, not as a burden, but as an opportunity. Even the many new teachers, trying to get ad- justed to a new situation and work with an also somewhat off-balance student body, did their jobs admirably. 3

At the heart of school lies academics. These underwent much change this year. Besides losing several teachers, the stu- dent population was down as well. This resulted in the streamlining of the various academic departments. Despite this, new and interesting courses, such as theater and computer science, were offered. Also, due to the new requirements for graduation and the scholars' program, many students were encouraged to try a variety of interesting and enriching sub- jects. Thus, through the efforts of the teachers, faculty, and students, an enjoy- able and useful educational program, which encouraged excellence, was of- fered this year.
