The parade commenced at four o'clock and featured floats, class attendants, sponsors and our mighty Red Devil Marching Band. During half-time of the game the homecoming court was presented to the crowd and float win- ners were announced, seniors taking first place. Climaxing half-time was the announcement of Miss Jean Allen as 1972 Homecoming Queen. Rounding out the evening, the ‘Devils’? came through with a roaring victory over Bartlett-Yan- cey (34-0), and a dance featuring Meadowbrook was enjoyed by all. At 8:00 P.M., the lights dimmed and the Master and Mistress of ceremonies, Edward Patten and Pam Mincy, intro- duced the twelve lovely contestants, who were in casual dress, as they appeared on stage. Talent and evening gown competition followed, after which the judges left to cast votes. During the judges’ delibera- tion, the GHS Stage Band entertained. After a short interval, the three finalists were an- nounced: Miss Kay Chester, Miss Kathy Linens, and Miss Janice Blaylock took honors. The finalists were asked two questions, one humorous and one Serious. Soon, the moment arrived: Miss Janice Blaylock was crowned Miss GHS of 1973. First runner-up was Miss Linens and Second Runner-up, Miss Chester. Other awards were Miss Congeniality, Miss Eve Car- men, and Most Talented non-finalist, Miss Sue Ham- lett. MISS GHS — JANICE BLAYLOCK 14 Kaye Chester Carrie Sue McDonald ASSEMBLIES We have had several entertaining and educational assemblies this year. George Karl, Carolina basket- ball star gave us a talk on drugs. The Champions Singing Group, featuring Bob and Carol, entertained the students with contemporary religious music. The team put forth great effort and ended the ’72 season with a 7-3-0 record. The experience of the ten Seniors and the brilliant teamwork of all the squad members brought about a showing that Graham High can be proud of. The Devils came on strong by opening the season with three straight wins, and it looked as if we were going to go on to an undefeated season. But, Lady Luck hid her face, and the Red Devils lost the next two games. Homecoming rolled around, bringing Bartlett — Yancey to test the Devils’ fire, but they were unprepared to meet the Devils’ determination not to make it loss number three. Our team got it all together that rain- soaked night and smashed the opposition, reaping a victory which proved to be the turning point of the sea- son. Some of the fire was taken out, though, as the Red Devils were defeated by the Ragsdale Tigers. Our Devils rallied from this defeat and finished the season with a three-game winning streak. After losing the first game against Cummings, Graham bounced back to win the next two games by over-powering ° margins. The third game, which was forfeited by Southeast, gave us a 3-1 record. Losing to Bart- lett-Yancey six to nothing dampened the team’s spirits, but the boys came around and finished the season by winning two, losing one and tying one. The J.V.’s fine efforts landed them the runner- up position in the Mid-State and City-County Championship. Our Marching Band also marched in the G.H.S. Homecoming parade and the Graham Christmas parade. This year there was a course offered during sixth period for the seventeen members of the G.H.S. Jazz Ensemble. Their music included everything from old blues to modern rock. Their appearances this year included the Miss G.H.S. With many competent people working together, we have come up with a book we hope the whole student body of G.H.S. will enjoy. There have been many new people on the staff this year, and only three returning from past years, Sylvia Victor, Lynn Beaudry, and myself. We also have a new advisor, Miss Faircloth. We did get off to a slow start because of so many new people, but the staff has gotten everything together by working very hard. I would like to thank them all for their effort and cooperation. We, the WAG sstaff, would like to extend a big “thank you” to Mr. Madrazo for the many pictures he has contributed. Also, special thanks go to Pam Jones at Delmar for the help she has given to us. We have made this year’s WAG the best we were able. There are many good pictures thanks to our photographers under the direction of John Beaudry. The staff has used these to invent layouts that we hope will satisfy you the students of G.H.S. and will give you a yearbook to remember forever.
