Fete en AON RTL oe RR EOL Og eA COUNTRY THE WAG O G.H.S. ‘69-70 Graham N.C. Introduction 1 Introduction Since man first discovered himself, one of his greatest challenges has been to learn to live with his fellow man. This relationship has been largely a mat- ter of his ability to communicate effectively with others. Yet, because of a lack of effective communi- cation and deliberate ignorance of other men’s social, religious, and personal lives, man has often set up social barriers and attacked other men’s beliefs and convictions. When Graham High School consolidated, young people of various environments and races were brought together. In attempting to establish our- selves, we were soon to discover that, contrary to general opinion, many of our objectives were not racially oriented, and many of our apparent differ- ences were nonexistent. By accepting and adjusting to the changes at Graham High School and by facing and dealing with our common problems, whether real or imaginary, we are on the road to a greater realization of com- plete harmony between blacks and whites — per- haps not such an “Impossible Dream.” Introduction 3 In this difficult day, in this difficult time for the United States, it is perhaps what kind of a nation we are and what direction we want to move in 2 of you who are black... you can be filled with bitterness, with hatred, 2 for revenge. We can move in that direction as a country, in great pol black people amongst black, white people amongst white, filled toward one another. can make an effort, as Martin Luther King did, to understand and to ¢ and to replace that violence, that stain of bloodshed that has sp nd, with an effort to understand with compassion and love... ! of my family killed, but he was killed by a white man. But we ha n effort in the United States, we have to make an effort to understan we need... is not division; what we need ... is not hatred; what we nee iolence of lawlessness, but love and wisdom, and compassion toward a other, and a feeling of justice towards those who still suffer within our cou they be white or they be black. To engage in an active program of career exploration in the field of educa- tion Future Teachers served as teacher’s aids at South Graham Elementary School. To show appreciation to the teachers of Graham High School they sponsored Teacher Appreciation Week. Activities for the week included small gifts of apples, roses, and paddles pre- sented by the students to the teachers on different days of the week. The FTA also put up bulletin boards about different phases of teaching for the enjoyment of everyone. Emphasizing the importance of worthy home mem- bership, Future Homemakers of America sought to promote growing appreciation for the joys and satis- factions of homemaking. Chon Saga of the 70’s Prison chains are all we know Cause we’re the class of 7-0. Our Freshman year was really bad, And we gained a reputation. Of being the worst class in the school, And probably, the nation. Our sophomore year was truly great It was a year of fun. But soon we found what next year would bring — The death of two schools — and the birth of one. Finally Juniors of upperclass standing Struggling to close the gap, Created by right wrong, maybe hate, Or not really understanding. We had a float and won second place And with other dreams inspiring, We held our Junior Senior Prom And... well...uh.... A truly indescribable senior year But what more can we say. Apathy reigned Miss Senior Class — So near to her we did stay. The football team — oh well, that’s past Remember the senior float. You don’t remember it? You don’t remember our Senior Class Float? We just can’t hardly believe that! And when you remember our senior year, Don’t forget to count our rights! 1...uh...0...uh...-1...uh... Our senior year — with ALL the assemblies Good ol’ Pomp and Circumstance. And the dances, oh yes we know — but not dances Clazz — Remember THE danz. So as we leave, we'd like to say Good bye old G.H.S. For after all, when we seniors leave — There just ain’t No One LEFT.
