Cheer! th ta aS AUIS a er Time andl the Tide With ceaseless cadence, the full tide flows in and, meeting the sandy shore, gives it a swirling caress, then sweeps back into the fathomless depths from which have surged all the tides of the mystic past... In its wake along the shore is left a memorandum of its visit there--a part of the oceanfrom which it came. The tide not only gave, but now bears with it the sand and the shells from the face of the shore to become forever a part of the restless, wandering sea. So are we--onetide of the eras of mankind. As we swirl upon the shore of life, we leave a part of ourseives behind--the mark of our times, our failure, and our success-- to become forever a part of the shore. And the shore, in turn, gives of itself and gifts of the tides before, all to become a part of us as we join the generations of men. Sydney Hardy @ ) e A time of war... U time tb work... As we sail on this sea of life, we will meet only a few rare people who will leave an’ unforgettable impression upon us. As each of us is swept into the greater tide of mankind,'' we must find our place in society. We wish to pay tribute to one who has successfully found her place of service. Her ideals of truth and honesty, her willingness to provide wise counsel, and her ability to bring forth the best in us, have made her a truly great leader. She has worked faithfully as our school librarian, as sponsor of the varsity cheer- i leaders, and as a friend to each and every student. In appreciation of your diligent work, we wish to dedicate this, the 1964 WAG, to you--Mrs. Tess Dyer. The WAG staff wishes to express its sincere appreciation to a young lady who ha s helped to put Graham on the map. Her charm, wit, and personality have made her a truly great person. She is extremely deserving of the crown she wears. _ : Her days at Graham High School have left a profound impression upon the students andthe teachers alike. We can still see this young lady leading cheers at the football games, editing our school newspaper, leading the girls' basketball team to victory, and always flashing her beautiful smile. These are memories which time cannot erase from our minds. — It is with deep pride that we publish the 1964 WAG in honor of Miss Jeanne Flinn Swanner, Miss North Caroling of 19640. ee oe WILLIAM DOLPH LONGEST (1946-1963) Crossing the Bar Sunset and evening star, '. . We began our Senior year at G. H. S., with mixed emotions. The thrill of having attained the long-awaited status of Seniors was tempered by the realization that all too soon, this, our last year of high school, would be over. Early in the fall of 1963, our class began chocolate sales to finance our fabulous trip to the New York World's Fair. We also sold doughnuts, and doughnuts, and more dough- nuts. But all heartily agree the trip was well worth all the time and effort. Our Class has been well-represented in sports, club activities, homecoming, and major school offices. Now, as we take a final look at our class candle, we find that it is growing dim. We have only one more event in which to participate--graduation. After graduation, we realize that the 1964 class candle will no longer burn. We can only hope our class has contributed something to G. H. S. that will keep the memory of our candle burning in the hearts of those we leave at Graham High School. GEORGE RICHARD ADAMS Ricky If worries were the only cause of death, then I would never die. Ts Vice- President 4 ? As time continued to burn our class candle past its midpoint, we returned to Graham Highas upper classmen. We were looking forward to the new responsibilities to be faced this year as Juniors, for we realized this would be the year for making important deci- sions. Many of our classmates were elected to prominent club offices and participated in sports. We launched our magazine sale last fall, determined to make our Junior-Senior prom the best in the history of G.H.S. The long-awaited day arrived when we received our class rings. We felt deep pride in showing off this symbol of prestige to underclassmen. One glance at our class candle, reveals that we are about to enter the last phase of our high school career, Next year we will return to G. H. S. as sophisticated Seniors! 36 Tommy Adcock Ella Mae Allen Judy Allen Kay Allison Tommy Allred Joyce Andrew Arthur Andrews Dennis Andrews Suzanne Barvir Beverly Basden Tony Benesch Nancy Boger Cindy Boswell Janice Braxton Barbara Bueschel Polly Clapp Carolyn Clark Charlie Coggins Jackie Cole Sandra Comer Bill Compton Doug Cox Donna Daniel Bill Drumwright Gloria Eubanks Steve Euliss Carol Evans Gail Faucette Jackie Foushee Jimmy Guthrie Cathy Guy Robert Hackett Jimmy Hallsey Steve Harden Butch Harrington Janis Hawk Eugene Hayes Janice Henderson Herbie Hilliard Alma Holt Mac Holt Martha Holt Sheila Holt Debbie Isley Jerry Janey Melba Jarrett Delores Johnson Earl Johnson Elaine Johnston Clarence Jones George Lemmons Sheila Lineberry Anne McAdams Sheryl McKeel Don McPherson Bill Magrini Willard Mann Linda Mansfield Wayne Mayes Roger Mercer Frances Moser Marian Patten Eddie Peterman Bobby Philips 38 Johnnie Porterfield Bill Roberson Jerry Rogers Bobby Roper Larry Sharp Cheryl Shoffner David Shoffner Gayle Smith Steve Smith Jean Thomas Elaine Thompson Pat Thompson Ricky Troy Cheryl Truelove Leon Tuttle 39 Lynette Vaughn Vivian Waddell Brenda Walker Gregg Walker Tommy Walters Carol Watkins Jerry Watkins Donnie Waugh Sherry West Richard Whitaker Staehle Whitson Billy Wightman Jack Williams Dennis Wilson Tommy Wingfield Terry Wood Tony Wright This year's marshals LEFT TO RIGHT are the following people: FIRST ROW: Marian Patten, Sandra Comer, Elaine Thompson, Beverly Basden. We felt more confident that we were not the youngest and least experienced class at G. H. 8S. We eagerly participated in club activities, sports, and studies. We began to mingle with the upper classmen and found them very friendly and helpful. Now, as the end of the year approaches, we find that all too quickly our candle has reached its midpoint. Our class candle was lighted and is slowly burning. We were unsure of ourselves as we walked into the auditorium for our first assembly at Graham High. After the initial period of adjustment at G. H. S., we began to feel a real sense of belonging. Even Freshmen can play an important part in high school. As the year draws to a close, we know that we have made a good start at G. H.
