Jones, serenades an appreciative noon crowd as the main attraction of Bluefield’s ‘Main Street’ concert program. 4 — Mr. Crock- ett and Mr. Meadows, ‘‘Thank you for your sup- port.’’ 5 — Practicing her forehand is Erica Chun. 6 — Making her own music is Jennifer Lowe. 7 — Melissa Rieger, Shelby Riffe, Becky Elam, Steve Ruble, Ali Folz, Mary Wilson, Paige Litz, and Suanne Nash, members of the 1987-88 annual staff, present their handywork. 2 SPRING COLOR LOOKING AT SPRING SPORTS HERALD SPRING’S ARRIVAL apaaat i ‘3! 1 — The 1988 varsity baseball team made waves in the South- west District. 2. — Melanie Campbell negotiates with an un- identified fan to get her ball back. 3 — When the girl’s tennis team is ‘‘set’’, they “‘love’’ having their picture taken. 4 — As Jay Brown- ing winds up to pitch, first base- man Eric Robinson moves into position for a possible grounder. 5 — Jerol Graves relaxes after his event during a track meet. 6 — Is Chuck Ashworth preparing to throw a spitter? 7 — Chuck Flynn heads the ball down the field for a goal. 8 — Anna Hash, Laura Matthews, and Sophia Rana come to the net in unique fashion. 9 — Scott Mulkey, at the height of anticipation, forcefully moves in to kick the ball. SPRING SPORTS 3 THE JUNIOR CLASS PRESENTS ... 1 — Denise Sudderth asks, ‘‘What do | do with this thing now?”’ 2 — Mary Lynne Williams disagrees with Angie Hart while Jeff Metcalfe referees. 3 — ‘‘Look! We've stayed within the lines!’ remarked Melanie Campbell, Betsey Kelly, Christina Ramella, Stephanie Snow, and Laura Cundiff. 4 — After a busy day of deco- rating, the starving Marcy Harris and Heather Alba take a break and eat a whole pizza. 5 — Stephenia Ruble aids in the chorus line con- sisting of Kevin Hill, Charles Thornsbury, Sa- tonia Buchanan, Jennifer Thomas, Angie Mar- tin, Kim Crockett, and Beth Garris. 6 — Instead of working on the Prom, Lisa Harman uses a 2 X 4 to file her toe nails. 7 — Shona Washington, Kim Washington, and Michele Goins ‘‘bend over backward ’ for the Prom. 8 — Enjoying their work are Shelby Riffe, Mary Wilson, and Brenna Ziegler. 4 PROM s : J ‘ 7 % 3 1 — Chris Waller, with his date, con- verses with John Hodock and his date. 2 — Ms. Whaley, with balloon in hand, waits for the ‘‘Big Bang’’, while Frank St. Clair attaches the other balloons to the string. 3 — Dancing to the beat of the music, Bill Kinser, Laura Mat- thews, and Stephenie Vaught have a great time. 4 — Stretching out design materials are construction workers Suanne Nash and Sophia Rana. 5 — After dancing all night, Wayne Riffe and Pam Dye become wallflowers for a short period of time. 6 — Kenny Lewis and Beth Garris gracefully glide across the dance floor. FALL DIVERSITY ee ee a — —— 1 — Andy Russell cools his helmet with water during a break from record hot two-a-days. 2 — Struggling through an exhilarating cross country meet are Robert Worley and Jon Stirewalt. 3 — Sean Gillespie obviously enjoys drawing outdoors in art class. 4 — Keith Woody ( 32) turns the corner for a long gainer against Richlands with the aid of a block from Tony Palmer ( 23). 5 — Along with the begin- ning of autumn comes schoolwork — and ex- periments — demonstrated by Stephanie Snow and Karen Walker. 6 — The ‘‘Graham High Drum Line’’ — Chris Holston, Bryan Wharton, Danny Rash, Doug Hash, Gina Davis, and Deby Patton — keep the beat at our pep assemblies. FALL 7 The Class Of ’89 Presents The Junior Class Play fk OE OF THIS GROUP DU ALL! IN THIS VERY HOUSE. TN SUCH INSTANCES 1 — Before solving the rebus form of her employer’s will, Lucretia (Andrea) falls victim to the mysterious murder- er. 2 — The Bone-Chiller cast of Jay Johnson, Stacy Peery, Lisa Harman, Suanne Nash, Camille Slaughter, Jeff Metcalfe, Carmen Pruett, John Knaus, Amy Lam- bert, Keith Woody, Andrea Jones, Bill Kinser and Marcy Harris stage their curtain call for an appreciative audi- ence. 3 — Adler (John) threatens the undercover detec- tive, Flame Fondue (Carmen). 4 — Zita (Camille), Theo (Suanne), Eloise (Lisa) and Ad er react to the murders of the cook and the butler. 5 — Lucretia and Pippi (Marcy) listen intently to the theories of Dan Denton (Jeff). 6 — With the help of Bullwinkle, Z ta Van Zok calls upon her psychic powers to find the murderer. Bone-Chiller! 8 CLASS PLAY THE TORCH OF SUCCESS IS PASSED 1 — Our first appointee to West Point in eleven years, Shannon Hinkle gives his salutatory ad- dress. 2 — Patricia Bowman placed second in the state for her exceptional writing ability. 3 — Jeff Metcalfe graciously accepts the title of SCA President from former SCA President Tim Riffe. 4 — Members of the 1988 graduating class sing to the upcoming seniors during the candlelight ceremony. 5 — Responding to the graduates’ song with a song of their own is the class of 1989. 6 — Top ten scholars of the class of 1988 are Pinky Bhagat, Lori Trigg, Greg Money, David Kovach, Melissa Rieger, Chris Ray, Kristi Pochick, Sid Nash, Shannon Hinkle, and Tim Riffe. To 1988 Home- coming Queen KAREN WALKER, who was crowned at the annual Homecom ing Game on September 30th. Her court included: 1 — Heather Alba, 2 — Laura Cundiff, 3 — Betsey Kelly, 4 — Paige Litz, and 5 — Christina Ramella. Keith Woody finished 7th out of 132 participants in the 500 meter run. Graham won 3rd place at the Region IV Championships. Keith Woody took Ist place in the Triple jump and Long jump.
