The girls went out and bought new dresses. The guys spent their money on tuxes and dinner. Finally, the big night arrived. Everyone looked impressive. Then came the moment when the pictures were taken. May Day Assembly 13 1 — Danny Akers receives the Presidential Physical Fitness Award from Coach Phelps. 2 — Mr. Hedrick was voted the “Teacher of the Year” for 1982-83. 3 — Coach Carlock passes out the Tennis Awards to Jill Gillenwater, Christy Lazenby, Michelle Bovenizer, Catherine Sowers, and Tracy Miller. 4 — Coach Carlock awards our cheerleaders with a Varsity letter. 5 — Our Band students are awarded with cer- tificates from Mrs. Chaffins: Sharlene McCoy, Lisa Cooley, Lisa Griffith, and Amy Baker. 14. Awards 1983 Awards Day 1983 1 — Seniors file into the Auditorium for their last of- ficial assembly. 2 — Lisa Honaker is awarded a Scholarship from Bluefield State College. 3 — Receiving certificates are some of the top ten of the class: Ronnie Tabor, Mark Clarkson, Greg Clay, Gary Reich, Renee Viers, Amy Yost, Elen Crabtree, Susan Kirby. Awards 1983 MAY QUEEN | — The newly elected May Queen, Renee Viers, shows us her pret- tiest smile. 2 — The May Queen candidates chose Terry DeLisi, Jeep Hawkins, Cris Richardson, and Stuart Woodie to be their escorts. 3 — The student body elected Monica Hutchinson, Monique DeAngelis, Renee Viers and Carol Mullins as candidates for our May Day Assembly. 16 May Queens 1983 SUMMER OF ‘68 Beach music of the 60’s dominated the choir’s musical. | — Singing “Barbara Ann” are Markus Bertel, Ronnie Tabor, Keith Brown, Greg Clay and James Hampton. 2 — Cast members relax before the curtain goes up to start the second act. 3 — The grand finale was a rendition of the alma mater. The book was printed by Taylor Publishing Company, Dallas, Texas. Richard Elliott was the company representative. The 480 copies of the 8% x 11, 216 page book were printed on 80 pound gloss enamel paper with a base ink of black and some reverse print. No color was used, and graphics were 100% black. The book was smythe sewn and the type was 48 Times Roman, with 10 point used for both captions and body copy. Times Roman was also used for all advertisements and headlines. An 8 page standard autograph section with senior and yearbook staff members’ names printed in gold foil com- pleted the specifications. The endsheets were screened in 70% maroon (034). The cover was custom designed and had base color maroon (360) with hot gold foil applied. All portraits and club pictures were taken by Coleman’s Studio, Elizabethton, Tennessee, and football pictures were taken by Tyler Easley, local photographer.
