Her patience and understanding will always be remembered by her grateful students. They never served because the club was discontinued. t A M r HUi Kirill Spring DOGWOOD FESTIVAL Ruby Nell Necessary was Graham ' s princess in the festival at Vinton. MAY DAY Queen Zella Moore and attendants Brenda Dillon and Jan Greear. MISS GHS ' 64 Connie Cofer was Miss GHS of ' 64. A dance in her honor was held in March. Seniors visited the New York World ' s Fair and the Capital at Washii ton, D. C. CLASS OF ' 64 Activities JUNIOR- SENIOR PROM Grand March Intermission WINNER Alice Douthit, recipient of the Cleo Lawson Mitchel Scholarship. Summer Classes go on at Graham all year. About 40 rising seniors studied government under Mrs. Wetzel ' s guid- ance. Activities Girls took a class in sewing under the supervision of Mrs. Barnett. (No Credit ! ) All school activities weren ' t work. Mr. Hedrick was in charge of a program of recreation every afternoon. Betty Bailey attended Girls ' All State at Radford. Budding scientists attended special courses: Sarah Spence took modern math at Emory and Henry; Robert Sarver took chemistry at Bridge- water; Mike Grim took biology at VPI. FIRE PREVENTION WEEK Lizzie Metcalfe, Graham ' s Miss Flame, and Donna Spradlin, Beaver ' s Miss Flame, took part in the Fire Prevention parade. Melinda Melvin, Ann King, Linda Remines and Linda Puckett represented Graham at the Y-Teen conference. INITIATION Officers of Latin II initiated new members of Latin I in October. HOMECOMING Ruby Nell Necessary, Emma Lou Wilson, Shelby Miles, and Donna French were at- tendants to Queen Susan Par- ris at Homecoming. Activities GABRIEL BLOW YOUR HORN Others having parts: Regina Ealy, Bill Sturges, Paul James, Julia Lindsey, Doug VanDevender, Andy Sor- rell. BAND FALL FESTIVAL Juniors scored a big hit with their play Gabriel Blow Your Horn . Players: Rita Matthews, Doug VanDevender, Barnes Louthan, Connie Maupin, Wanda Horton, Dane Morehead, Cricket As bury. ELECTION ' 64 Graham Band again sponsored a Fall Festival. Frances Distefano and Mike Ciaburri were chosen king and queen. Seniors wore these tags to remindvoters of their duty. The Presidential election created much interest. Government classes conducted a mock election. As Graham goes so goes the nation ! Winter Arrives Dignified Seniors ! The first snow was welcomed in true childish fashion. Christmas brings joy. Stu- dents in speech and choir presented a preholiday pro- gram. Alvin Lester was Santa. Every Day Last period finds us watching the clock. MEMORIAL GYM Physical fitness brings health. These firefighters lived up to their motto of Keep Virginia Green by helping fight forest fires last fall. The Forest Marshal called upon them several times. Speech Club Mrs. Garwood teaches her class the value of expressing themselves clearly and effectively. National Thespians Students who have acting ability and a flare for drama are eligi- ble for membership in this club after achieving the required number of points. Points are acquired through participation in plays, radio programs, and other related activities. They attend school one half day and work one half day. These classes are taught by Mr. Carlton. Driver Education Mr. Bradley teaches these students the rules of safety and good driving practices through actual experience behind the wheel. The club is sponsored by the coaching staff. Track Team Graham always seems to turn out a good track team. Mr. Brookman and Mr. Crockett are track coaches. Wrestling Team The interest in wrestling has increased this year. Mr. Brookman is the wres- tling coach. Wanda Quesenberry Golf Team Golf is a new sport at Graham. Boys who plan to take part again this year are Jerome Rogers, Steve Ryan, Fred Tate, Tommy Armbrister, Mike Ciaburri, and Barry Frye. Mr. Jones is coach. Girls’ Athletic Association Girls who have earned 750 points in physical education classes are eligible for membership in this club. Mrs. Juanita Hill, girls ' physical education teacher, is sponsor. Varsity Sweetheart The Boys ' Varsity club chose Wanda Quesen- berry as Varsity Sweetheart. The first Varsity Sweetheart was Judy Waggoner in ' 64. G-Girls This club is made up of girls who have earned 1000 points by participating in G.A.A. activ- ities . Midget Teams KIWANIS CLUB TEAM Coaches: Gerald Grim and Don Copley Midgets grow into G-MEN BOOSTERS CLUB TEAM Coaches: Mack McGrady and Jack Bourne Classes MEMORY AND THE SUN DIAL TELL THE SUNNY HOURS.
