Rock-a-Thon The Keywanettes of GHS were the center of attraction in their first annual “Rock-a-thon.” The club rocked for 24 hours starting on November ninth thru the tenth. Donations were pledged to go with the number of hours the person rocked. All money made went toward Cystic Fibrosis research. WBOY-TV in Clarksburg and WDTV-TV in Weston visited the rockers. The Keywanettes raised over 2,000 dollars in their efforts. Parents and friends bring food for the rockers. Covering up was top priority. Top left, left to right: P. Weaver. B. Weaver. S. The class captured the first place centerpiece card with their colorful teepee. It was stuffed with tissues and amplified the other decorations. The tenth graders prepared their decorations in Blue-ville. “Senior Saloon” The Class of ’79 followed the theme of “Senior Saloon”, with dance hall girls and card players. They received second place for their background. A large foaming mug served as a centerpiece, and it also was awarded second place. Decorating was done at the board of Education offices. “Freshman Fifties” The Freshman class held decorations at the garage of Bartlett’s Funeral Home. Their theme was “Freshman Fifties”. The class had a lot of help from their fellow classmates. “High spirited and good sports” described the Freshman class best. “Junior Leprechauns” The Juniors followed an Irish theme, decorating with leprechauns and shamrocks. They used their class colors of yellow and green throughout and captured the first place ribbon. Their centerpiece was a multicolored rainbow. Beginning in the fall of 1979, he will become the Principal of GHS. As Assistant Principal, it has been his task to keep the students of GHS on the right paths. In doing his job, he has strived to be firm, yet fair. He also has had a hand in school policies, and has put a lot of thought, time, and effort into developing and implementing these policies. We feel he has done the job well, and will be a fine leader in the years to come. m Robert E. Straight, Principal • Mr. Straight has beefi a fine principal and a good leader for the faculty and students of GHS. He will be leaving Taylor Co. to reside in Marshall Co. During his administration, he has been determined and dedicated to make school policies the best possible. He has aimed to satisfy the students’ needs academically, socially, morally, and emotionally. It is the Re-Echo’s opinion that he has achieved these goals. He will be missed. GHS wishes him the best for the future. What would it be like if we didn’t have any transportation to school ... we would all have to walk, and what if after we got there, there was no one to prepare our hot lunch meals? All of this is usually taken for granted, thanks to the cooks and bus drivers we have these services. All of these people help make the school year a little easier. Cooks: Left to right; E. This year's Bearcat basketball team was filled with high hopes but low scores. In the six years that Coach Arthur Haswell has been at GHS, this is the first year that the season ended with a losing record. Several games were lost in the final seconds by two points or less. The team just couldn't seem to make the crucial plays. Toward the end of the season the Bearcats began picking up momentum. They defeated state-ranked Bridgeport by 21 points at home, making only the third loss of the year for Bridgeport. Grafton entered the Sectional Tournament, facing fourth ranked Liberty. The Bearcats led most of the game, but lost 55-54 in the typical fashion of the season. Marty Bolyard was named to the All-Tournament team, and also to the first team All Big Ten. Ron Moran was selected for the second team. However. The strong points for the boys’ track team were in the hurdles, longjump. and shuttle hurdle team. Possibly the two steadiest performers were Todd Miller and Jay Coplin. Todd competed in the high jump and Jay in pole vaulting. Many factors, such as weather, trips, and illness, hampered the boy's team this year, so they were limited to the number of meets they were able to participate in. WATSON'S The Best Of It All Is At Watson's Middletown Mall 167 —Ads I MAY BE able to speak the languages of men and even of angels, but if I have no love, my speech is no more than a noisy gong or a clanging bell. I may have the gift of inspired teaching; I may have all the faith needed to move mountains — but if I have no love. I am nothing. 1 may give away everything I have, and even give up my body in order to boast — but if 1 have no love, this does me no good. LOVE IS patient and kind; it is not jealous or conceited or proud; love is not ill-mannered or selfish or irritable; love does not keep a record of wrongs; love is not happy with evil, but is happy with the truth. Love never gives up; and its faith, hope and patience never fails. LOVE IS eternal. There are inspired messages, but they are temporary; there are gifts of speaking, but they will cease; there is knowledge, but it will pass. For our gifts of knowledge and of inspired messages are only partial; but when what is perfect comes, then what is partial will disappear. WHEN I was a child, my speech, feelings, and thinking were all those of a child; now that I am an adult. I have no more use for childish ways. WHAT WE see now is like a dim image in a mirror; then we shall see face-to-face. What I know now is only partial: then it will be complete — as complete as God's knowledge of me. MEANWHILE these three remain: faith, hope and love: and the greatest of these is love. A Friend SPECIAL AND BUSINESS PATRONS Dr. C. E.
