Mr. Whitescarver — Retiring Principal Mr Whiccscarvcr at Graduation Exercises Receiving a Gift from Faculty Members During the last feu- days of this school year. Mr. Edward Whitescarvcr was honored by various organizations as he is retiring at the conclusion of 1973 1974. Several of the clubs combined to give him a very colorful sports jacket, and the Student Council presented him with an electric saw. He received plaques at the Senior Band Dinner and FFA Banquet, and during a dinner at a local restaurant, the faculty honored their peer with a gift of luggage. Many complimentary remarks were made in relation to his dedicated years of employment as teacher and principal, at the Commencement Ceremonies by the speaker, U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd and also by the Taylor County Superintendent of Schools, Paul C. Bartlett. All of these actions confirm a job well done in his years of service as an educator. 1973-74 Teacher Of The Year I don’t remember anything on the day of a test,” is a common statement of the 1973 74 RcEcho Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Be tty Rose Morrison Mrs. Morrison has been teaching social studies at G.H.S. for the past five years. Her teaching career began at Grafton High as band director during 1914 to 1943. Some of the duties as band director were the teaching of student instrumentation throughout the county and also directing elementary school operettas. She then left the teaching profession for two years; she re-entered the field at Grafton Jr. High School as the eighth grade social studies instructor in 1939 where she remained for ten years. Mrs. M” graduated from West Virginia University with a major in music and a minor in social studies, after attending the Grafton Area Schools for her elementary and secondary-education. Student contact and the lasting friendships formed over the years arc the most enjoyable-aspects of teaching.” said Mrs. Morrison. She commented that school is more student oriented than it was 20 to 30 years ago” and that it is more responsive to the student’s demands.” Mrs. Morrison is a very- considerate teacher, and she has always cared about the benefit of the students. She is always full of pep and spirit and always has a smile on her face. Congratulations to Mrs. Morrison who most certainly deserved the honor of the 1973-74 Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Betty Rose Morrison
