DEDICATED WITH FOND MEMORIES The Re-Echo Staff wishes to dedicate the 1969 yearbook to Mrs. Sinsel with sincere appreciation for her twenty-six years as a teacher at Grafton High School. She is a native of Taylor County born near Simpson. W. Va. on July 7, 1904. Her parents were Dellet Newlon and Effie Dearing Newlon. She has two brothers. Merle and Alfred, both in the teaching profession. She is married to C. B. Sinsel. and they live at 216 Beech Street in Grafton. After graduating from Grafton High School in 1924. Mrs. Sinsel entered Fairmont State College, where she received her A. B. degree. She obtained her M. A. degree from West Virginia University in 1932. She also attended Glenville State College, Alderson-Broaddus College, and Duke University. Previous to coming to Grafton High School in 1942, she taught at the Central Elementary School and Simpson High School. During her years at Grafton High she has sponsored the Future Teachers of America. Tri-Hi-Y and Y clubs and was a junior class advisor for several years. Mrs. Sinsel is also interested in community and church activities. She was a past Matron of the Order of Eastern Star. She is a former secretary-treasurer of the Union Baptist Association and recording secretary of the Alderson-Broaddus College Alumni Association. She is a member of the Webster Baptist Church. Mrs. Sinsel is also a member of several educational organizations: Taylor County Classroom Teachers Association, Taylor County Educational Association. West Virginia Education Association, and the National Education Association. On May 9, 1969, at the annual dinner of the Taylor County Association of Retired School Employees, Mrs. Sinsel was elected president for the 1969-70 year. Mrs. Sinsel has a friendly greeting for all students, a pleasant smile, and a personality that wins many friends. As a teacher, she brings history to life. She is one of those few teachers who know how to coax’' the work out of a student. She is noted for her surprise quizzes and hard tests. Her most common expressions are, Keep awake, boys.” and Turn to page 400, Column I”. Mrs. Sinsel likes steaks, bananas, and students who cooperate. In her spare time she enjoys reading religious and historical novels, watching TV, sewing and doing fancy work. She dislikes reckless drivers, students who are late, and who go around with a chip on their shoulders. This year, 1969, ends her successful teaching career. In her retirement she wishes to travel and to have an interest in their farm at Oak Grove. The staff wishes Mrs. Sinsel every possible happiness during her retirement years. 3
