The sc uad was coached b former cheerleader C audette .Ioncas anc consisted of senior captains Ivy Lapworth, Kim Morgan, and Karen Morissette. Practices were held Tuesday through Friday and usually lasted two hours. Practice time was spent Jerlectin cheers and learning a dance routine lor the T l1lIlliS1flVlIlg Day pe rally. Thanks to the assistance oi? Sandy Houclle and Kim Pigaga, the dance routine was a great success. T The most exciting game ol' the season was the Superbowl at W.l'.l. against Assabet, a team to whom the varsity football team had lost earlier in the season. The squad cheered enthusiastically throughout the game and got the crowd psyched and involved. The continuous response from adults as well as students kept the spirit high in Ural'ton's bleachers. Though there were bad times as well as good limes, most cheerleaders would agree that the season was an enjoyable and memorable one. T V KIM MORGAN x l X Sandy Hou e a hti iss Ga eij K 1, ! I 1 s I ' HWITH THIS RING . . .U Personal and Family Living is a course in which students learn about themselves, their peers, and what life has in store for them when they graduate from igh school. The main event comes at the end ofthe school year. It is the weddings which take place and involve the students of each class. There is a lot of planning and stress involved in preparing forthese weddings. First of all, students must have money and lots of it. They also need flowers, tuxes, gowns, presents for the wedding party, and a place for the reception. It is also important to have good food, a good band, and a photographer. Our mock weddings were as close to the real thing as we could get them. We had two separate weddings, one for each P and F class. The first class's wedding party was made up of Lisa Pic ette, the bride, Pam janovsky, her maid of honor, and Kim Morrissey, her bridesmaid. Ita so inc uded Kevin Warwick, the groomg Mike Pollier, the best mang and Mario Polselli, the usher. Unfortunately, the weather did notqcompletely comply with our expectations, for during the first wedding, the sky was gray. However, the weather did not interfere too much, and the wedding went as planned. The decorations were sincere and a good time was had by all. 1 .LL ,EA Jn.: iv l ff 'fi P. gif? ,, . w' LQ A r. The second wedding party included Debbie Rice, the bride, Angie Somers, her maid of honor, Andrea Wright, the bridesmaid, Dan Page, the groom, jim Smolinski, the best man, and Rich Ouellette, an usher. For weeks we went over the res onsibilities involved and prepared decorations, and made arrangements for tuxes, gowns, and flowers. The tuxes were provi ed by Mr. Tux of Shrewsbury free of charge. In class we went over vows and time schedules to make sure that everything would run smoothly. All contributed their time and effort to make the weddings successful. All decisions were made in class by the students. It was up to the class to come up with the ideas for how to create the ceremonies and plan them with Mrs. Flynn, our supervisor, teacher, and head consultant. It was a beautiful, sunny day for the second wedding. The class spent the better art of the mornin decorating the courtyard. There were wooden arches with crepe paper flowers, streamers, and flowers all along the doors. B051 weddings were a tremen- dous success strai ht through the rece tion, during which we all HIC a turkey dinner complete with wedding cake which was, in keeping with tra ition, Cllt by the brige and groom. These weddings showed us all that they can be a lot of fun, but they can also be a great deal of hard work. It was a good experience enjoyed by all, and a leasure to take part in. Also I would like to add a special thanks to the teachers, businesses, and participants who made the wed ings possible and successful. by Dan Page 5,1 XZ ., 35 158. , lg Xi xx I t l I hw-W . . The whole ordeal began at approximately 9:00 in the morning, with each group arriving to register our projects. It lasted until about 4:00 in the afternoon, when the weary, tired history-goers packed up their belongings and left the university. This day was the purpose for our work on history projects which we all had started in our respective history classes during the last week of january. Since then, we had added to and revised our original ideas. Mrs. Page had warned us that she would be vicious when reviewin our ro'ects tand she was not lying? We Ihad to present our projects to the class several times before the final product was brought to the fair. Along the way, we encountered many difficulties. March 22 seemed to last forever. First, two of the total number of projects from the 210 classes had to be eliminated, because schools were only allowed a few entries. Passing over this hurdle, we then had to face a major setbat k. Because of a lack of space and time, the sponsors of the fair were forced to lnnit the munber of participants in the two cate fories - media and periormante. 'l' iese were the two tate fories around which all the projects rom our school were formulated. Mrs. Page was now faced with an almost impossible situation. She had to choose the entrants in the media and performance categories from her Iwo classes, and she had to somehow rliauge all of the others into a visual dis ilay. As always, our iesourtefu history leather pulled tis through. all Back Row L to R: Donna Girard, Mary Noonan, Kathy Cleary, Ashley Heselton, Maureen Murphly, Rose Andrezyck, and Becky Hessler. Front L to z Rachel Remillard, Samantha Brady, and Missy Gagne March 22 seemed to last forever for the students who were required to stay with their projects for the greater part of the day. Also the media and erformance entries had to wait long ours until the time ofjudging. We all survived, though, with some minor difficulties. Particularly for the performance categpry, the tension mounted with eac passing moment. Of course, we all had survived through the strentious day to arrive at the awards ceremony, the reward for participation in the contest. We received other rewards, like a balloon for each of us from otir generous teacher C'I'hanks, Mrs. Pagelj. The awards for the junior division were the first to be announced, which was not pleasant for all the anxious Grafton senior entrants. All of the students and teachers tMrs. Page, Mr. Melios, and Mrs. Mahone J sat on the edges of their seats. Final y, the time carrie for the senior division awards. Grafton did very well in the competition with the following winners: MEDIA CATEGORY: lst place: Maureen Murphy, Rose Andrejczyk, Donna Girard, Becky Hessler, and Kathleen Cleary with their project The Thirteen Days of October, concerning the Cuban Missile Crisis, which went went on to the state competition. 3rd lace: David Vancelette, Erich ohaboy, Brian Ellis and Casale with their roject Where There's Smoke, a out smoking in our society. Winning or not, the entire group of Grafton representatives at the fair displayed a great deal of school spirit. The cheers and applause made everyone at the fair realize that we put a lot of work into these projects, and we were proud of them. We had three entries from Grafton in the state version of the contest, which was held on Saturday, May 10, 1986. The three groups had time to make any major or minor changes which were necessary. Early in the morning of May I0 all of the groups. their equipment, any s ectators, and Mrs. Pa e piled into a us to journey to Deergeld Academy where the state competition was being held. Both the group performance and media had appointments with thedudges before lunch time, so everyboc y had a chance to look around at the sights of the school. Unfortunately for eff McGann and john Dunne, they hat to stay with their project right up until about a half an hour before the awards ceremony. When the awards ceremony finally arrived, the Grafton entrants and their fans went into a large auditorium for the presentation. As before, thejunior division winners were announced first. Grafton received three third place awards for their projects in the three respective categories. This is excellent for Grafton's first year in competition. Many thanks to Mrs. Page for all the sacrifices she made. ill Om-S ' E XX O, f-f + QXYNVWQ m a P cf if L 3 V HQ! ki Lyeah 174,54- l'S .nc 1. Jw? ' As we come to the end ofour Sophomore year, the Class of 88 has a lot to be proud of. We have finally begun to make our mark on GHS. The year started out great when we came in first place during spirit week in the fall. Our treasury grew from a mere 8500 to well over 352,000 fthis is greatly due to our advisor Sue Teso and our class ofhcersi. Since last year, we've only had four major fund-raisers tan easter basket raffle, a dance, a turkey raffle and holiday candygramsj. However: all have done well. Our class has proven excellent academicall also. With over ten inductees into the National Honor Society and more making the honor roll each term. T is year So Jhomore Cindy Clearwater held the lead in the school playa Grease and many So homores were a part o the championship winning sports teams. One ofthe ig lights ofthe year was w len we received our class rings at a special banquet and dance. The Sophomore Class wishes you, the graduating class of 1986, the best of uck wherever you go, whatever you do. In the past two years youlve set a good example for us and have helped us adjust to CHS. Well miss you. The Class of 1988. 'av . For starters, we came into the high school as naive freshmen and we have earned a lot in our three years here. We've had many fund-raisers to bring up our treasury, namely: dances, a sweat shirt sale, valentine roses, and Carnation sales for various times ofthe year. which all have helped us make a suitable amount of money forthe upcoming year. We expect to have many more when the New Year comes along. The Class of '87 is very thankful to Mrs. Helen Campaneli, who is our Class Advisor. She has helped us with all our ideas on fund-raisers. Many of thejunior sports players have been a part of our championship winning season. We are very proud of them. Don Ho Michael Capps , i 4 cv me Y , The whole class is lookin forward to becoming next year's Seniors and having all 5, the lun that lies ahead.
