After quieting the students lnow I0 minutes remaining in the classl she takes attendance. OPPS - Billy is late! Billy doesn't need a late pass because he has a good excuse - his mother died on the way to school! The sub accepts the excuse and class continues. Pass the homework forward. Oh - Mary's is in her locker and Johnny forgot his at home. Bob's dog ate his and ubs. In Toda ! Wayne didn't know there was any homework. Wait! What's going on in the corner? Joe is copying Rita's work! Sean is eating Drake's cakes and Patty's gossiping with Helen. O.K. Clear your desks because it's time foratestf' Following groans ofdis- gust . . . Jane goes to the bathroom. Ro- ger goes fora drink. and Sarah can't find a pencil. While the kids take the test. many eyes wander around the nearby desks. Believing that the students are just day-dreaming. the substitite returns to her work. The bell rings and they pass their papers forward and exit with cor- dial nods and grins.
