'6We've Got Stylev Throughout the four years that the Class of '84 has attended GHS. we've exhibited quite a variety of fashions. The styles of clothing have changed considerably since our Freshman year. Several of these fashion trends include the styles of the conservative preppies and the wild punks. Although many of us tespecially the girlsl have received scornful glances from certain indi- viduals. these trends have continued to change and become increasingly more strange as our high school years passed. When we were timid Freshmen. many of our classmates dressed in a preppy style with turned-up collars, kelley green trutle necks, and dock sider shoes. However. the majority of our class tired quickly of these expensive IZOD's and LLBean clothing items. and remained content with our Levis ix V11 and flannels. and skirts below the knees. As we completed our first year of high school our timidness began to wear off and the wild styles began to wear on. The girls' skirts began to shorten and the guy's sleeves were cut off. Many ofthe old fashioned dress codes were violated but even a few ofthe teachers were com- miting the violations. Hair styles changed dramatically and the accessor- ies were definitely punk. In addition to the multi-colored bandnas tied from head to toe. the styles of shoes ranged from spike heeled pumps to plain white sneakers. Along with the eccentric fashions we developed throughout our four years at Grafton High. in our Senior year we saw women wearing men's clothing and vice versa. The usic The new decade has brought many changes in the musical department. The predominant one is the means by which new songs and bands are introduced to the public. In the past the primary source was the radio. but now it is the television. MTV tMusic Televisionl, and other video programs which enable us to see and hear our favorite musicians performing in concert and enacting the meanings oftheir songs. Because of mu- sic videos. many English bands have become very popular here in the United Statesg so popular that their influence upon our culture has been called The English Invasion. Some of these invaders are Boy George twho definitely is a man. just as Mrs. Batesll and other members of Cul- ture Club. the fab tive from Birmingham - Duran Duran. the sexy Adam Ant. the wild and spike-haired Billy Idol. the famous trio The Police. the bizarre Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart who consitute the Eurythmics. MTV's all C9116 time video champions - Def Leppard. Genesis. the Fixx. and David Bowie. Other very popular foreign acts include Bryan Adams. the Rolling Stones. Yes. The Who. and Loverboy. Although there are many foreign groups which are well-liked here in the U.S.. there are also several American bands which are very popular. Provid- ing us with a variety of music. such musicians as Huey Lewis and the News. Van Halen. Journey. ZZ Top, Quiet Riot. Cyndi Lauper. and of course Michiel Jackson. have acquired nation- wide recognition. All of these musicians have contri- buted to today's culture by writing songs about life. death. war. freedom. and love which correspond to us and our personal experiences. The musical scene during our years of high school can be described in a few words: WAAF. videos. concerts. MTV. the Centrum in Worcester. and Boy George! l 2 ! .
