DEDICATIQ 1' 3 1 'ld' agfivh Mrs. Judith Dadah, after being conned into accepting the position of advisor, spent four hard-working years forming a class out of a group of individuals. Her creative ideas sparked us into contributing and her frequent chastisements to think forced us to rely on ourselves. 4 In and out of the classroom, she was willing to listen to our problems, offer advice, or challenge us to test our limits. No matter what she was occupied in doing, we were never far from her thoughts. Because of this dedication, the Class of '83 was one of the richest classes to graduate from GHS. The flurry of fundraising characteristic of most senior classes was thankfully absent, due to the far-sightedness of Mrs. Dadah. She discovered unusual methods of earning money and always assured us that we could achieve our goals. Constantly pursuing ways to make our activities fincluding graduationl unique, she unselfishly invested most, if not all, of her free time. For your four years of dedication, enthusiasm, support, and creativity - Thanks, J.D. . .nw-5 xl ,. xv N.. I 1 XX x XX x -,, . Y X. Their overall record for the season was 9-3-1 with a loss against Blackstone- Millville in the districts. With fifteen seniors and two juniors, the team was talented and performed well together. There was a change in coaching this season. The leaving of the talented Miss Joyce LaBonte brought in Miss Wendy Moffat for her first varsity coaching job. Lori LeClaire was outstand- ing and led the offense with eleven goals, followed by Karen Glispin with eight. Karen Frederico and goalie Robin Zajkowski were outstanding on defense, which lead to eight shut outs for their team. E rf 'via . 'fs H .-+-...sg g 5 s ' V c, 5 . The Indians truly were tough competition for Southern Worcester County and proved this by placing second in the league. The teamls success was a direct result of each player's effort and talent. Two people who exhibited such ability were Larry Lebel who was elected to the Telegram and Gazette Allstars and Chris Grew who made player of the week. The tn-captains, Larry Lebel, Chris Grew, and Chris LeMay displayed leadership and skill throughout the victories as well as the defeats. This was evident when they led their team to tie the first place David Prouty, 7-7, in one of Grafton's most memorable games. 5 -4-faffssf' iv. -au' ffm., ' ir 5 ,fn , .g -. 1 5 I ies-lim Fi hi 1, 5 c 'V' '64 by ' 0 W iffy 4 f If ,xii K'! The softball team had a tremendous season: a final record of 16-2, Southem Worcester County league champions and finalists in the District lll playoffs. After last year's rebuilding, Grafton overwhelmed most of its opponents with outstanding offense and defense. The team was characterized by a neverssay- die attitude, most obvious in the Millbury game where, down 9-O after the first inning, they rallied to win 10-9 in extra innings, Team work was essential for the lndi- ans who had eight seniors: Anne LaDuke, Lori Ann l.aPointe, Lori LeClaire, Sue Pieleski, Brenda Simp- son, Dina Vitkauskas, Robin Zajkowski, and Beth Zas- tawny. No captains were chosen although Lori LeClaire was the representative in the districts and Beth Zastaw- ny was MVP. The Indians believed that to win every single person would have to contribute and that belief catapulted them to the quality of playing expected from championship teams. The Indians provided their fans with an exciting, 60 ,li L f 2 ' ,raw :Eff-f'i2 wi ' lr? , ..,.. ', 1' ,125 ' . , . 'f ef fy. merit' - L 4, ...Y 4 , , J n r ,, , D t. Grafton, MA 839-2812 for a class wild and free By DINA L. VITKAUSKAS We're wild, we're free, we're the Class of '83! ln September 1979, that was the attitude adopted by the freshman class of Grafton High School. The following four years proved that saying to be appropriate for this unique class. From the wildly enthusiastic pep rallies to the freedom experienced during Spring Fling Week, Grafton's Class of '83 has demonstrated ingenuity, spirit, pride, maturity, and creativity. For other classes, freshman year is characterized by confusion and a reluctance to participate in school activities, but this was not the case for the Class of '83, They threw themselves whole- heartedly into making small items for a Christmas Fair to be held their sophomore year. lt was one of the most ambitious projects undertaken in many years and with a little luck it would be one of the most profitable. The faith the class placed in this fundraising activity tnot to mention their entire summerl was rewarded by a successful Christmas Fair. As sophomores, the Class of '83 continued to demonstrate the qualities that make a class memor- able. The activities they were involved in freshman year became more important as they realized a new wave of freshmen were there looking up to them. There was one or more members of the class excelling in each area: athletics, art, academics, music, school govemment, class committees, and extracurricular activities. Always interested in new projects, the sophomore class sponsored the first Ring Dance held at G.H.S. in a few years and then spent the summer assembling a float for the first Annual Fourth of July Parade in Grafton. The float's theme was School Days and featured an old fashioned school room, complete with a dunce. The Class of '83's entry won a cash prize which was contributed to the class treasury. Half of the high school years were over as the Class of '83 became juniors in September 1981 and they hadnlt yet accomplished half of the things they wanted to. Many opportunities presented themselves last year for the junior class to partici- pate in: a pep rally, a volleyball game against the seniors, and the first Junior-Senior Prom. The Juniors won the pep rally overwhelmingly and de- feated the seniors in the volleyball game. Through- out both activities, every member of the class showed good sportsmanship and class. Too soon, summer arrived and the juniors tack- led another project, repainting the football bleachers. As senior year approached, members of the class were beginning to have trouble fitting class activities into their busy schedules, but they found time. Many people started working part-time jobs and some were attracted to other activities, yet they always managed to donate some of their time to their class. Nine months ago, the Class of '83 entered the hallways for their final school year. Each activity the senior class held brought graduation one step clos- er. On Class Night, the seniors presented a slide show reflecting the four years they've spent at Grafton High, the first exhibit of its kind to be shoggi, indicating the resourcefulness of the Class of ' . On May 27, family and friends of the graduates gathered in the gymnasium. Sitting on the basket- ball court, each senior was treasuring memories of the class. Perhaps a few recalled the motto on the banner at the recent pep rally held herez lf memories were colors, Ours would be a rainbow Connecting the past to the future, Wherever we may be, And keep us united As the Class of '83, Each person on the gym floor knew that every- one contributed to those memories, just like each raindrop adds to the total effect of a beautiful rain- bow. One band of memories for one talented class, which has shown what can be done to make high school a more interesting experience. The person most responsible for revealing the hidden abilities ofthis group is the Class Advisor, Mrs. Judy Dadah. Her dedication and patience is deeply appreciated by the Class of '83, 111 f N Without talent there would be no performance. That's the vvay we look at it too, here at Wyman- Gordon Company. Our business is metals engineering. We sup ply forgings, and other critical metal components, to key American industries like transportation, defense and agriculture. And the skills of dedicated people are as important to us as our sophisticated equipment and processes. Indeed, it's the critical factor in every part we make for jet aircraft engines, power generating equipment, diesel engines and land improvement equipment. We have to respect talent, because great performance depends onit. And our audience vvon't settle for anything less. v, rl wyMAN Fl GDRDUN 16171 839-5331 jafzetteix fucked a-fppazef JANET ENGSTRAND 68 WORCESTER STREET Owner NORTH GRAFTON MA 01536 Morrill's Bakery 43 Main Street So.
