You are a part of Grafton High School. Progressively, it's been a great four years-moving to classes, cheering at basketball games, rush- ing to meetings, taking finals QI passedll, accepting honor or de- feat. And the years that are to come promise to be even greater. The stage has been set, the cue has been given, itis now up to you. You'll be meeting new people, seeing new places, and Grafton High will become 'csomething that happened when I was younger. These four years have been both togetherness and separateness: a background for tomorrow. This COMPASS is a part of that back- ground, a part of you. Grafton players poised for Santora's Lap. This year's basketball team, led by five veteran Seniors, had one of its finest seasons in many a year. The Indians posted an impressive 14-6 record and were in the league title race right down the line. On merit of their good record, the Indians qualified for the District Three and Clark Tournaments. In one of the high points of the season, the Lake Ripple Braves ended Tahanto's 20-game winning streak in the semi-final round of the Clark Tourney. Throughout the season, the Indians relied upon fine teamwork and a well- balanced attack. For ball-handling, excellent shooting, and good passing the Indians counted on their 5-6 guard Cary Marsden and 5-10 sharpshooter Steve McKeon. Co-captain Rich Mongeau and 6-2 Senior Mike Santora were tough off the boards, Rich with strong driving and Mike with his inside shooting. Of the starting five, co-captain Tom Mattus is Mr, Everythingf' As described by Coach Blackburn, Matty is one of the best all-around players in the area. The Indians, however, did not have to depend solely on their Seniors. Junior Paul Bazinet and Sophomore Ron Lufkin helped in many a tight spot. Sophomore Joe Loconto was brought up from the ,Iayvee squad for the Clark Tourney. In the final game against Westboro, he led the team with 18 points. Rounding out the team were Juniors Scott Rossiter, Robin Alhquist, and Dave Clispin and Sophomore Bill O'Connell. Grafton's biggest asset, Coach Tom Blackburn, by developing a team con- sidered the best disciplined and most poised by many around the county, has earned the title as one of the top-flight coaches in the area and the admiration of everyone here at GHS. isis I' ' 30.9 01226 IS . Under the leadership of Co-captains Anne Oksanish and Gail Fleming. the girls met and defeated such for- midable foes as Marian, West Boylston, and Algonquin High Schools. The 6'Squaws', were aided by the sharp shooting of Angela Cirrito and the strong defensive play of Linda Noel and Deborah Guglielmello. Other members of the squad who saw action during the season were: Andrea Leslie, Susan Griffin, Dolores Dumas, Carol Radzik, Mafy- ann Bagdis, Deborah Nault, and Gretchen Bath. Because of their achievements during the regular season, the team was invited to play in the Sutton Invitational Basketball Tournament, in which they finished in fourth place. Their 11-3 record was tops in their league. w 3. N' Qu19,g'4':g 5, ,Q .. H:-V v-2. .' 1 - Y 1 X V R 1 aw. I' . .nav x I 1 Linda ties up the ball.
