Al I J 40 -N L H1 TGRY In September of 1957. the Seniors held the traditional Freshman Reception at which they tried to prove that even Seniors are human. As soon as We had managed to stop wandering into the wrong classrooms, we settled down for our 'first year in high school. We decided to go to Whalom Park on our class trip. With this event. our class ended the beginning of our four years at Grafton High, and we were looking forward to the next year--to the title of Sophomores.M Our Sophomore year found us well in the swing of things. With Judy Labrie as our efficient president, class affairs ran smoothly. In December, the class dance conducted under the capable leadership of Barbara Matuzek, was a success. But even this delightful occurrence was outshone by the first annual Carnival Ball held January twenty-fourth. In early April, the financial condition of the class was greatly improved by a carwash held in three parts of town. Everyone fin the class took part. and soapy sponges became the order of the day. The class trip. an ideal climax to the too fastfleeting year, came on June thir- teenth. This afforded an excellent background to a full, fascinating year which was soon to be lost when we became Juniors. After two years of toil, we had to prepare ourselves for the everlasting challenges we would encounter. Our able leader. Judy Labrie was elected for the third con- secutive year. Under her guidance we organized several money-making projects. Among these were a dance called 6'Teen Beatw held on October 2, 1959, and a drive to sell stationery. However. we did accomplish things other than those bent on making money. As Christmas approached, we were all excited about the arrival of our beautiful but expensive class rings. Under the guidance of Barbara Matuzek and Dave Fleming the prom finally materialized on May 27, 1960. On that night, which we had all so eagerly awaited, we drifted to the golden tones of Al Hakey and his band and dreamed of our beautiful queen Pat Wofid and her court. The final event of this illustrious year was the Junior-Senior Tea. It made us realize that soon we ourselves would be Seniors. The Senior year was one of mixed emotions. There was the financial panic caused by the expenses of the Yearbook. Class Night, the Senior Ball, the Class Trip and many other things. To solve this problem, we held food sales, sold candy, held dances and car washes, and collected back dues. Everyone, in addition. also experienced the fear of not graduating, the jitters about acceptance at the college of your choicef, the boredom of the last year. and the mixed joy and sadness of the last few days of this the last year at good old G.H.S. These are the things that have made us a class. Let us hope that these same things will keep us together always as the graduating class of 1961 at Grafton High. 1 1 A P -' pg- - .Aga-as . ' 5-A 14.1-A-1----4:-reg!-fd-1:-A:1,4 , 'lm PROPHECY As we pass through the gates of the great World's Fair. our first sight is a radio station and a press box. In the press box, we see Charles Glodas, popular disc- jockey, spinning the platters while famous sports announcer, William Hoyle, talks to the equally famous baseball star, Jim Ritchie. Upon entering the U. S. section, our eyes view the secretarial exhibit. In this exhibit, we see a force of secretaries including: Lorraine Lavallee, Carole Gemma. Elaine Brousseau, Marion Babowitch. Gyneth Waters, Judy Ciccone, Patricia Theriault, Dolores Breault, Joanne Messina, Sandra Little, Sandra Liberis. Mary Jane Thomas, Eleanor Boyle. Phyllis Stone, Gloria St. Pierre. and head book- keeper. Carol Mis. In the art building, illustrating what is new in the commercial art field. is Bob Wahlgren. With him are other leaders in the world of Art, William Lukas and Marsha Byngiewicz. Further down the avenue of exhibits. we are hypnotized by two of America's greatest salesmen. Bob Hamilton and Vincent Dauphinaisg Ann Meany, a mer- chandising expert: law enforcer Norman Sarkisian: internationally famous lawyer, Bruce Langdon and social worker Barbara Matuzek. Directly behind them are some of America's greatest educators demonstrating new methods in teaching. They include: Joanne Ford, Suzanne Holland, Philip Bjorndal. Marilyn Bouleau, Bob Crepeau, and Kevin Kennedy. Strolling near livestock exhibits, we see skilled farmers in the persons of Williain Jones, Hal Merrick, and Tom Frederico Closely associated with them is forestry agent Mike Hebert. Milling among the spectators at these exhibits we find our handsome nationis defenders: Dick Erenius, Russell Fuller. Boy Gaudette. Andrew Hubbard, Roger Williams, William Clapp, Thomas Wharton, Bruce Nicholas, Francis Carelli, and David Brueggemann. All the service men are gazing at the pretty airline hostesses that include Barbara DiCarlucci. Jackie Hannon, and Sue Willianis. Every hostess is in turn looking at the daringly romantic pilot Dave Fleming. Keeping the pilots in the air is left to Al Cardoza, airplane mechanic, and Dave Cross and Ed Doane, the aircraft technicians. In an exhibit reviewing the advancement of medical knowledge we find Doctor Raymond Wahlgreng surgical technician, Judy Labrieg nurses, Pat Wood and Carole Huchowskig dentists, Dick Greenfield and Peter Waterfield, occupational therapist, Sue Putnam, and physical education teacher, Mercie Wetherbee. In the U. S. exhibit, built and planned by architects Mary Pfau and David Adams and chief engineer Bob Morin, we find the machines of the space-age which Jerry Girouard and Bob Benoit designed. As we stroll through the U. S. exhibits we canit help but notice the beautiful landscaping done jointly by head landscaper Wayne Clark and construction boss, Wayne Page. In charge of all the buildings in the U. S. exhibit are Dennis Flynn and Stephen Bergquist, the famous industralists of the 20th Century. As the sun sets on this World's Fair tour, we view with pride the accomplish- ments of our fellow classmates as evidenced here. However, even though they have all gone through life separately they always remain the graduating class of 1961 of Grafton High School.
