SPGTUGHT i940 is earnestly awaiting the day when they can give the opin- ions and select a coirittec to take charge of this trip. Up to-date we are in no financial difficulty. Being young and ambitious, we Sophonores anticipate a bright fu- ture. We sincerely thank the various committees for accomp- lishing highly successful class functions this year. fuuppctfvlly submitted, Mary Ermak, Secretary and Treasurer f- ' . if S X' , Li: , H ,A ' I 'Z' 'H 34-Ie, up f f'. - . m-QF , Class of 1943 - Quiet, quiet behind those doors where the Class of 1945 sits in solemn session at its first class meeting! Pri- maries have been held, nomination papers duly filed and now the momentous moment has arrived! We are actually voting! Hinds have been made up carefully after consideration of the divine eyes, sweet personalities, and magnificent phgsiques of.the candidates so that Richard Glispin, the hero of Nbrth Grafton becomes Presidentg Bill Schofield, the hero of the feminine world, Vice-President, and little Ruthie Hall, the darling of the whole class, Secretary-Treasurer. y W Turning our attention to class mottoes, we select one bulging with our spirit of achievement and progress, HNot at ,the Top, But ClimbinL!N We are inspired! We pounce on the 'spectrum, and it offers us class colors, maroon and gold. ,Sedate, don't you agree? Class dues are our next problem. The teachers--wc see why now!--suggest the establishment of B small fund for flowers or cards to sick members, perhaps a ness tax of five cents. We scorn such penuriousness and ,grandly pass a unanimous vote that class dues be twenty-five tents for the remainder of the year. A few weeks later a of the class is ill. We are all sympathy and want to ss it with a large bouquet of flowers, the treasury ds seventy-two centsg Rachel gets a card! The sale of emblems has helped the financial situation somewhat, Ver. After suggestions for class flowers ranging from to boutonnieres, we have decided to postpone choice your senior year when the matter becomes practical. SPOTLIGHT 194 o ealities. Here is a figure, perhaps just a little rotund, but with laughing eyes and rosy cheeks. Yonder is one who pays little or no attention to the rules, and ls, shall we say, a little headstrong. Over there is the studious person, we wonder if the daily dictionary has been duly digested. Really, though, the boys feel that the manly type predominates among them, and we are sure the girls agree. The girls, we understand, feel that they represent the attractive feminine world, and the boys second the motion unanimously. Springtime among the Freshmen finds our President, Richard Gllspin fvery handsome indeed and we know who elec- ted himl chatting with the Secretary Ruthie Hall, not an un- usual combination. The warm days are welcomed too by one blonde, Patty Shipman, known for her wget-em-allu ability. Do we see her casting her blue eyes toward a group made up of our glamour boy, Bill Schofield, Harry Jennings, popular with girls in upper classes, Burton Hobie, noted for his dramatic and musical ability, and Frank Mallalleu, whose red hair is the envy of all the girls, and his sunny dis- position, the envy of everyone! ,Girls gather in groups, too, and hero we find popular Rose Nolan entertaining in a sunny corner, Helen Dumas discussing baseball technique with Ellen Chamberlayne, Rita Iosciusko and Betty Cunningham cataloguing the Freshman boys, while Genevieve Kennedy and Geneva Childs forecast the coming fashions. Of course, we have our students, among them Kenny Boutiette and Kazar Kazarian working earnestly on an algebra problem. Is that William Davis lecturing on social problems again? His social problem, you know, is a very special Freshman lady. O'Leary and Kenny Belsito, together? Nothing unusual about that, the all absorbing subject of basketball. ' A large number of us form an awed circle to hear tales of Washington from the Seniors: the boat trip that disagreed with Etta Leighton and her luncheon, George Prentiss' un- fortunate appendix, the annual disappointing burlesque show, the sailor he-men, and, of course, the buildings and the people. We fervently hope that everyone realizes the appreciation of the Seniors for their chance to go, and we assure you that the Class of 1945 will be just as ap- preciative. , On the whole, we feel that we are a class with great .GRAHCN HIGH SCHOOL
