Mu ic The music department and the director, Mr. RoyBitzer have much to remember about 1956- 57. The many hours which were utilized in practicing for various concerts and contests brought rich returns for the musically enthusiastic students. Girls and boys glee club, small vocal groups, concert and marching band are included in the high school music curriculum. The number one event in the variety of highlights for the music groups was contest - the first of which was held in Fertile, Iowa for soloists and small groups. At this contest division I ratings were claimed for Grafton by Rose Marie Walk and Deanna Kruger with a piano and vocal solos respectively. Gretchen Seegers received a rating of II with a saxophone solo and all rating was awarded Mavis Braun for her vocal solo. Marble Rock, Iowa was the site of the contest for the concert band and glee club. The ratings received were a 11 by the band and a 111 for the girl’s club. Mmafyiafton Versatile is the word best describing the Grafton band queen. Rose Marie Walk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Walk, plays an oboe in the band, is a majorette in the marching band. She sings with the glee club, accompanies music groups and re- ceived a Division I rating in piano in the state music contest. She is co-editor of the annual, on the newspaper staff, has been in dramatics and was Homecoming Queen this year. Rose Marie has been forward on the basketball team in the state tournament of 1955-1956. She is secretary-treasurer of the senior class and active in church youth work.
