Text from Pages 1 - 48 of the 1957 volume:

We, the senior class of 1957, wish to dedicate this annual to the memory of Joan Rennae Christianson, daughter of Superintendent and Mrs. Gordon. Christianson. Joan passed away suddenly on February 28, 1957, at the age of 21 months. May her memory be blessed. OUR WISH FOR YOU - Dear little children, our wish for you As you start off to school Is: Please remember to do your best To learn the Golden Rule. You may not be an athlete The kids will idolize. Or own a wealth of knowledge That the world will recognize. If you could see with our eyes The things that make the man. You'll shun the fake and show and farce And follow through the plan. Though you acquire a hoard of gold Or rise to power and fame. Remember while reaching for the stars There are rules in every game. And when you learn the answers And your ships come sailing in. We hope you'll be as clean and fine As now when you begin. JCutdexgwUett ROW THREE: Anne Walk, Marvin Hackbart, Thomas Trettin, John Borchardt, Mark Picht, Ann Biederman, Mrs. Trettin. There was also comic magic throughout the play -- a real delight for any audience. Charley's wealthy aunt from Brazil ( where the nuts come from ) creates a comic confusion when an imposter assumes her name and causes unheard of predicaments. But alas, circum- stances improve and everyone is happy as the play advances to a grand finale. Qlee Club Mu ic The music department and the director, Mr. RoyBitzer have much to remember about 1956- 57. The many hours which were utilized in practicing for various concerts and contests brought rich returns for the musically enthusiastic students. Girls and boys glee club, small vocal groups, concert and marching band are included in the high school music curriculum. The number one event in the variety of highlights for the music groups was contest - the first of which was held in Fertile, Iowa for soloists and small groups. At this contest division I ratings were claimed for Grafton by Rose Marie Walk and Deanna Kruger with a piano and vocal solos respectively. Gretchen Seegers received a rating of II with a saxophone solo and all rating was awarded Mavis Braun for her vocal solo. Marble Rock, Iowa was the site of the contest for the concert band and glee club. The ratings received were a 11 by the band and a 111 for the girl’s club. Mmafyiafton Versatile is the word best describing the Grafton band queen. Rose Marie Walk, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Walk, plays an oboe in the band, is a majorette in the marching band. She sings with the glee club, accompanies music groups and re- ceived a Division I rating in piano in the state music contest. She is co-editor of the annual, on the newspaper staff, has been in dramatics and was Homecoming Queen this year. Rose Marie has been forward on the basketball team in the state tournament of 1955-1956. She is secretary-treasurer of the senior class and active in church youth work.
