The 1973 football season started out slowly, losing the first two games but ended with seven straight vic- tories, This placed the team second in the Cornbelt Conference. -I Adjustment to a new head coach and coming off a losing season slowed the team. Injuries to Tim Millea in the first game and J. R. Brown in the Ruthven game forced the team to work harder. The Pirates had some impressive statistics for the year. The offensive team was No. 1 in Northwest Iowa in yardage gained for 332.4 yd. average per game. As an individual, Tim Kulow scored 19 touchdowns for a total of 126 points, placing him at the top of Northwest Iowa for scoring the most touchdowns in Class A schools, Tim was second in North- west Iowa in rushing, averaging 6. 9 yds. per carry. John Anderson, I. R. Brown and Tim Kulow were named to First Team All-Conference. Bob Joyce, Ted Lundgren and Roger Schmitt were named to Second Team All- Conference. In addition, Tim Ku- low was selected to the All-North- west Iowa Football Team. Ve!! af JL i r I I Y .J At the beginning of the 1973-'74 school year, six girls were chose as cheerleaders for the football season. As the year progressed, new cheerleaders were selected for wrestling and basketball. These cheer- leaders practiced twice a week after school. When game time approac ed, these cheerleaders were ready with spirit. The spirit was so great during football that the fans were voted number one in support behind the team. The spirit continued through- out the basketball and wrestling season. The basketball cheerleaders attended a clinic in Spencer. There they learned new cheers and chants. Speeches were made on how to do better cheers, how to yell, and how to keep spirit. l ecoguifivu Given to Acadvmic Students Induction of the new members into the National Honor Society was held March 5, 1974.
