FRESHMEN On September 5, 1939, forty three Freshmen en rolled in Graettingcr High School for the following subjects Algebra, Mr. Bates, General Science, IW. Lapitz, Junior Business Training, Miss Umland, and English, Mr Ball Soon afterwards class officers were elected President, Kenneth Johnson, Vice President, John Howard, Secretary, Roy Tenborg, and Treasurer, George Trick Jr. They were initiated on November 5 by the Sophomores and after that were considered a part of Graettinger High Both boys and girls entered in the County Jr High Basketball Tournament and in the High Scnool Class Tournam nt In the Jr. High Tournament, the boys won their opening game by de feating Ruthven 24 21, and the girls won 31 50, over Cylinder. In the semi final round the boys lost 20 18, to Rodman, and the girls lost 45 O5 to Ruthven. In the Class Tournaments, both the ' boys and girls lost al1'their games to the Seniors, Juniors, and Sophemorcs. At the beginning of the second semester, the students enrolled in the following classes: Alge- bra, Mr. Bates: Literature, Mr. Ball, Hygiene, Miss Wyatt, some of the class enrolled in Agricul- ture'taught by Mr. Lapitz, some in Speech by Mr. Ball, and some in Salesmanship taught by Miss Umland Q 4 1 On March 1, 1940, they lost one student but gained two more making the class total at forty- four. ' They were host and hostess on Class Day to tho eighth graders from the country schools, who' attended the different classes with the Freshmen,' and were served dinner in the Home Economics room. w11 1111 1 1 I Il l llal 'V ' O 4 . .
