For the structure that we raise Time is with materials filled, Our todays and yesterdays Are the blocks with which we build. This quotation from Longfellow's peom THE BUILDERS shows the relationship of the past to the present, the relationship of what was to what is to be. Life is filled with sorrows, with temptations, with failures, but its dominant note is joy and its mightiest force is love and its last word is hope. Carlyle said that nothing worthy in the past departs, no truth or goodness realized by man ever dies, or can die 5 but is still here, and recognized or not, lives and works through endless changes. Herein lies the challenge-- that we seek Truth and in finding Truth we will find Life--a Life that is filled with purpose, aspirations, ideals, and love. Build today, then, strong and sure With a firm and ample base, And ascending and secure Shall tomorrow find its place Longfellow I3

Historically, the ancient Hebrew was commanded to bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light to cause the lamp to burn always in the tabernacle of the congregation. It was declared a statute forever unto their generation, awaiting the coming of the Messiah. Christ taught man that his body was to be a tabernacle and light in which the light of lights would dwell to radiate faith, hope, and love. I2

Through the ages it has been the symbol of the best that man- kind had to offer, preserved and passed on from generation to generation. Today, you in the medical world have received the best knowledge and techniques of the past. You are con- stantly learning and expanding on the limitations of the present. Our choice de- termines if it will be used wisely or un- wisely. Time used wisely brings us a life of joy and contentmentg used unwisely it brings unhappiness and despair. Time used in any endeavor when we expend less than our best effort is wasted and lost forever. True happiness is found in achievement through time used wisely.
