he Mysterious Slasher Plant Detective Monday Fagan Catches Culprit Dum DumDum Dum: lThis story you are about to read is true. Only the names have been changed to protect the writer.l You're a beautician assigned to the Beauty Parlor. A mysterious slasher has cut the fingers of 20 patrons during this week. My job: Get her. My name is Pat Monday. My partner is Rose Smith, the boss is Marian Brown. lt's October 23. The New York weather is balmy. Rose and l checked in at headquarters. We questioned several victims. But none can describe the slasher. lt happened too quickly, they claim. Tuesday, 9:00-A 24-hour stakeout is arranged to cover the shop area where the slasher is expected to strike next. We wait two hours. Nothing happens. I ask Rosie: How's the family? She replies: Fine, but I need more sleep. Wednesday, 9:00-We checked in at the office. There's a report that two more slashings have occurred. Still no leads. Marian Brown walks in. She says the corpora- tion presidents wants the case cracked soon. Marian tells us to use as many girls as necessary to solve the case. I ask Rose: How's the family? She replies: I told you yesterday. Thursday, 10:32-Still no leads. At 11:00 a special patrol covering the lunch rooms bring in a suspect. They caught her with two butter knives on her lunch tray. Thursday, 11:45-We question the suspect. She claims she needs two knives because her sandwich was too tough to cut with just one. We release the suspect after tasting the sandwich. Friday, 11:14-We relieve the men at the stakeout. We wait. Suddenly a patron clutches her own hand. Her fingers are bleeding. Rosie grabs a beautician nearby. Okay, Mazie, Rosie says, We've caught you with this red-handed girl, you might as well confess. 54
