HARPER wr 'S' MARY PATRICIA BOX BETTY LEE ANSON KIT PETTIGREW REX KENNEDY At the close of the year of 1943, our class consisting of fifteen members graduated from the eighth grade. In our Freshman year, our enrollment increased with the enrollment of Max Ford, Nelda Vick, Willard Blevins and R. G. Hopper, but Marvin and Melvin Simpson and Jerry Smith left us. Mr. Owen acted as sponsor. In our Sophomore year with Mr. Dennis as our sponsor, we were glad to have Mary Patricia Box, Marita Ann Watts, Margaret Sanders and Rex Kennedy join our thriving group, but we were sorry that Creola Smith, Willard Blevins, R. G. Hopper and Max Ford left our group. During our Junior year there were fifteen of us, with Mr. Hutto as our sponsor. We welcomed Polly Barber, Helen Green and Stanley Kennedy to our group, but Marita Ann Watts, Nelda Vick, Mary Grace Taylor, Margaret Sanders and Helen Green left our ranks. The main event of our Junior year was the Junior-Senior Banquet. As we came to the last step of our school life, our class dwindled to twelve. James Williams and Stanley Kennedy left us. Some of the main events that we will all remem- ber were the Senior Play, Bandits For Breakfast , the J unior-Senior Banquet, the pro- duction of the 1946-47 Annual and the Senior Trip. We wish to express our gratitude to Mrs. Kirby who has stood by and helped us through the hard places this year. They made a clean sweep on their trip to Vaughn, Magdalena, and Soccoro. The games were hard fought, but the Bronchos proved to be too much for their opponents. The Bronchos met Rosedale in the first round of the County Tourney, defeating them by a score of 50-36. The second game was with Field. Grady came out with a 37-13 win. This Victory put them in the finals against Mel- rose. They furnished plenty of fight, but again the Bronchos came out on top after playing an overtime period. The final score was 32-30. Grady was represented on the All County team by Howard Vandevender, Kit Pettigrew and Charles Kamradt. Two weeks later the Bronchos entered the District Tourney, fighting for a chance to go to the State Tourney. They got off to a good start with a 73-7 victory over Hiway. Next came Dora, a team the Bronchos had beaten once in the season. The boys from Grady got the old fighting spirit and won the game to the tune of 53-25 to put them in the semi-finals against Floyd. Then came one of their off times and the Floyd Bronchos took the Grady Bronchos out by a score of 40-30. This loss made it necessary for the Bron- chos to play Melrose for third place honors. Our boys proved to have the better team by defeating Melrose 40-36. ' We are proud to have Howard Vandevender placed on the All District team. First Grade Since the first year is so important it was decided to have it separate this year. We enrolled twenty-two the first day of school. We have had very little loss of time due to illness but bad weather did interfere some. We have enjoyed some good times with our room mothers: Mrs. Ralph Stan- field, Mrs. Earl McClain and Mrs. Debbs McCasland. We have enjoyed our music especially. With the help of the Second and Third Grades we presented a Hallowe'en program, and helped with the Christmas pro- gram. t If these little folks continue to work as faithfully during the rest of their school years as they have this first one, Grady will have no need to worry about its future graduates. fs 2 fwf r 1 S fa TOP ROW CLeft to Right!
