The boys lost to Pleasant Hill and Texico before the tournament but November 3, in the County Tour- nament held at Ranchvale, they redeemed themselves from Texico by a 13-2 win. The Brolnchos got off to a bang up start and didn't let up during the entire game. However, winning over Texico put 'them against Melrose in the semi-finals and the Buffalos delt the Broncs a fatal blow. The Bronchos out played the Buffs but our boys couldn't connect with the Buffalo pitcher's fast ball. Girls' Softball Zona Lou Harrison Billie Jean Grau ...... Leila Gwyn Davis .... In the Counwty they me-t Ranchvale in the first round and coasted by them with an easy wiln of 43-9. Next came Melrose and they furnish- ed plenty of fight but the Bronchos came from behind in the fourth quarter to win 35-34. This victory put them in the finals against Texico, the team which was seeded first in co-unty play. The Bronchos gave nearly everyone- surprise when they came out on top with a score of 36-21. A week later the Broncohs entered the District Tournament, fight- ing for the chance to go to the State Tourney held at Albuquerque. They go-t off to a good start with a 47-19 win' over Rosedale. Then came Dora, a team which had beaten the Bronchos once this season. The boys from Grady got the old fighting spirit though and took another victory of 36-21 to put them in the semi-finals against Rogers. Then came olne of our off times and the Rogers Eagles managed to eke out a 29-27 din over the Broncs. This loss made it necessary for the Bronchos to play Melrose for third place honors. Again our boys came from behind in the last few minutes to take third with a final score of 30-28. Girls' Basketball Vida Bee Daniel ...... Kathryne Stanfield ..... Oleta Williams .......... ' VOLLEYBALL After a successful basketball season, the girls went into volleyball with much excitement and hope for a victory. Much interest was shown by the girls this year than in previous years and we have several tall girls which proves to be a useful asset. From the following girls we hope to have a winning ball team: Vida Bee Daniel, Kathryne Stanfield, Polly Barber, Betty Jo Fryar, Alyene Waldrop, Polly Wells, Billie Jean Grau, Nettie Williams, Oleta Williams, Lena Murle Queener, Ella Fay Sanders, Marg Holtzclaw. As the annual goes to press, we haven't had any matched games but we have worked up some keen compitition among ourselves. There is going to be a tournament at Melrose and we have high hopes of going far in it. BOXING This is a new sport here but the boys became very interested in it. They box- ed at Clovis the night of March 30 and 'they gained some valuable experience al- though they didn't win. As the annual goes to press, we have: Kit Pettigrew, Gene Pettigrew, Del- bert Gregory, Frank Williams, E. J. Harper, Doyle Bennett at Albuquerque at- tending the state boxing meet. We have high hopes of their winning a trophy. TRACK Grady's traclk team was put to test when Wayne Snyder, Reefard Burrous, Howard Vandevender, Charles Kamradt, Rex Kennedy, Robert Box, Ray Fraser, and C. W. Daniel went to Melrose on March 29 to enter into the track meet there. They won third place in this meet and plan to enter the Fox Relays, County, District, and State Meets. Not baked in Proverbial Pie, but living together in our ordinary schoolroom, you would find these twenty, eight graders and fourteen seventh graders. We have enrolled twenty-one eighth graders and seventeen seventh grader but have lost Clifford Sanders, .Tames Perkins and Lena Taylor, who have mo- ved from our community. Another member of our Seventh Grade, Dixie Harper, answered the Call of the Death Angel, leaving her schoolmates to join that bright and shining band across the Dark Waters. We want to thank Mrs. Briggs and Mrs. Stout, our room mother, for the entertainments they have given us. We certainly appreciate it. We are extermely proud of our basketball teams, our girls brought back a second--place trophy. Even though our boys did not win in the tournament, we are proud of them. We started off the school year with a very large enrollment, twenty-'two in the first grade and sixteen in the second grade. During the year we lost several of our pupils because they moved away but we had just about as many who moved in so our enrollment remained fairly constant. We feel that we have had a very successful year despite the loss of quite 31 little time due to illness and bad roads, and we know that we had a very good time due largely to the effort of our room mothers, Mrs. Morse, Mrs. Hall, Mrs. Shaw, and Mrs. Dunning.
