On Campus Morning routine. i v Y .Q vi on -E -J co w I l Mopping up after shower party. 6X On Campus How am I ever going to clean this up? Sometimes the halls are too loud. Sometimes the shoe in the door gets to be annoying. -Still, people keep moving back into Tess Morgan and Gunsolly. Living on campus is a unique experience that many don't want to miss. 5 The dorms and the units attract all kinds of peoplei Freshmen and sophomores are required to live on7 campus, but many people choose to continue their on campus residence after the mandatory two year stint. Liv- ing on campus relieves a person from worries about pay- ing rent and water bills, fixing dinner, and getting to campus when an ice storm has just hit. On campus life offers more than just security, though. It brings cool people closer together. You get to know your roommates and neighbors better than you might want to' know them. You get to share albums, homework clothes, assignments, and secrets. Living on campus is certainly an. experience to be had.

I Lastifsiimmer,-II was trying to think of an theme for the 1985- 86 yearboiok.Istayed'iin-Lalmonithat. summer, so I spent a lot of titinjeiwalking-to 'and ,from, campus, around town. Often, on sunny days, ,I would pack ia lunch and' sitbby Founders with Rob..I wouldsit, enjoyingnthe sunshine, orthe shade of the trees, looking out at the 'almost-blue water. The more time I spent on campus, the more 'I began ,to notice the trees. There were all kinds: maple, fir, oak, -some crooked and gnarled, some spindley sapplings. I remembered that the aca- cia is a type of tree., It's 'a hardy variety' that lives in the desert where few other planxts or animals survive. It grows stunted, almost shrub-like with long thorns, ' X I wonderfwho, chose the na-me Acacia for Graceland's'year-, book. Perhaps theymeant it to symbolize Giraceleandwers who would have to survive where 'few others could. Perhaps they were thinking that in order to put out a yearbook one would have tolbe tough and hardy like the acacia. Whatever them case, Ichose thetree to be a visual symbol for this book. I think the tree is an apt symbol., We leave here 'after growing taller and stronger, ready to receive the full strength ofj the sun on our leaves, ready to weather wind and rain. There are many trees at Graceland: probably eachjcould symbolize usd in some way. As we 'leave here, may ,we never forget, that our roots haveifbeen nourished by Graceland. And may we never forget our connectedness with trees. , 1. 7 J -Sue Anderson S Q Editor X . 1 X
