CITCIITTCJ Those involved with Drama pro ductlons this year have been very busy. Although the core of drama students is small, they were able to put on five plays including: Bus Stop , Fiddler on the Roof , The Real Inspector Hound , The Fifteen Mlnute Hamlet and The Red Shoes performed by the Children's Theatre during winter term. In March, the Flne Arts division hosted the Tow- el and Toothbrush weekend. This pro vlded an opportunity for Graceland students to meet with high school stu- dents interested in art, music and theatre. Drama students also held many fund raisers. They sold lemon- ade, performed at the Lamoni carni- val, collected cans and performed In homes. president's T I inauguration 2 Wednesday, September 26, 1984 was a special day at Graceland College. lt was on this day that Dr BClfbGI'G J. Higdon WCS tflGUQUfGteCt GS GfGCetGl'1d'S thirteenth president. With the exception of Dr. Velma Ruch's One S ' ' ' y ar of service as Acting President, Dr. Higdon is the college's first woman president. At the ceremony, Dr. Edmund J. Gleazer, Jr., visiting professor from George Washington University, delivered the Inaugural Address entitled, The Widening Circle-Context for Graceland. He challenged the Graceland Community to move towards greater aware ness of the world around it, greater analysis of the infor- mation provided it, and greater action to actually com- plete the circle. Aware + , ness causes analysis, i which fosters action, which in turn causes greater awareness. President Higdon spoke on, The Present Time of Future Things. She stressed the rich i heritage that Graceland V enjoys, but she also challenged the Grace i A lClhd Cemmunity, espe- President Higdon and Dean Kofoid GraceIand's first woman president P H cially the faculty and students who are the heart of the educa- tlon process, to work to gether towards the fu- ture. She feels that stu- dents and faculty should become united in the pursuit of the highest academic standards possible and commit themselves to Grace- land College and the unique opportunities it affords all its members. Byron Constance, Chairman of the Board . of Trustees, presided over the service. The Graceland College Con- cert Choir and Orches- tra provided the music.
