Presidentgs Message Page 22 PRESIDENT HARVEY H. GRICE, B.Ch.E., M.Sc., Ph.D. What had the past? What of the present? Whither the future - and why? Cicero professed that to be ignorant of the past is to remain a child. Would we? We may not learn and comprehend all of the knowledge of generations gone before. We must, however, acquire sufficient of the wis- dom of our forebears to provide nurture and growth for this our day and for the next. For many, the present is intended only for today. For some, its true worth lies in its value to the future. Few of us, Lincoln observed, may be induced to labor exclusively for posterity, and none enthusiastically. After all, posterity has yet done nothing for us. Theorize as we may, we should do little for posterity UNLESS, as Lincoln declared, we believe that we are at the same time doing some- thing for ourselves. The future is not for posterity, it is for ourselves. Eternity is yes- terday, today, tomorrow ...... Hn. Yesterday is still with us. Tod-ay is our day. We live for tomorrow. We MUST labor diligently for eternity. It is our JOY, our LIFE and our HOPE. Harvey H. Grice
