For the Acacia I953-I954 Those unacquainted with the ways of college life may surmise that for the Graceland teacher passing college years merge into an indistinguishable general recollection with the stretching out of time. This is not true. Some years stand out as peaks and some as valleys. Although you may not have been entirely aware of it, you have participated in one of Graceland's im- portant years - a year when the Board of Trustees went on record with a grand and growing concept of the role of Graceland as an 'institution of higher education, a year when that important foundation stone -- 'college finance - was more surely stabilized than at any time in the recent past, a year when plans were made to provide for orderly and intelligent expansion to meet the needs of the ever-increasing number who wish to come, a year when Graceland extended its global mission in a personal way to Norway, Korea, and Belgium, a year when through the culminating act of graduation Graceland formally attested to its belief that race is not a criterion for ad- mission to the college. But the full story of this college year is yet to be told. A college lives only partially through buildings, finance and plans, and even its group achieve- ments. It lives fully through those it graduates. Let the bright and hope- ful promise of your lives be given constructive and creative fulfillment. Extend your loyalties and express your abilities. Then perhaps it can be said - this was one of Graceland's best years. It is our faith that you will make it so. EDMUND J. GLEAZER, JR. President 18
