Santa Filomena Mrs. Lena Pearson Miss Eva Grace Proffitt First Lady Secretary- Treasurer Santa Filomena, Senior honor society was organized at Duke University School of Nursing in April, 1944 and at Grace Hospital School of Nursing in June, 1953. The members are chosen from the rising Senior class and are then tapped at a public cere- mony. The purpose of this organization is to promote leadership and recognize achievement. Santa Filomena strives to promote higher nursing standards. All proceedings of the meet- ings of this organization are held in secrecy, as are all ceremonies except the public tapping of the new members. The Santa Filomena flower is the white lily, and the members wear a small gold Florence Nightingale lamp. 32
