Buy you a pencil and paper and a pair o' white shoes And get oriented---get your picture in the news. I fell in the trap--I forgot the date-- Somehow I thought I would really rate; Didn't figger on givin’ up all my fun. Let me tell you my troubles had just begun. Learned my chemistry, anatomy, and all that jazz, Tearin' my hair out and prayin' to pass, And all the while a voice in my ear--saying Just wait pal, It's harder next year. Well, the days crept by--man! I mean drag Then under each eye an overnight bag Appeared--to match those wrinkles, I guess That showed in my forehead after all those tests. Now I look back with a crooked smile On the days when I was free and wild And remember the day those nursin' blues Took away my dancin' shoes They said ''Take this here uniform.
