Dr. Hoyt, President of Grace College Apart from life, the most precious commodity in this world is time. It is that period during which life is permitted to express itself in the various activities and functions of spirit, soul, and body that make for personal achievement, social contribution, and divine adoration. It is that period when ail the facets of per¬ sonality have opportunity to sparkle with brilliance. It is that period when the mind has opportunity to probe the infinite reaches of knowledge and explore the yet unknown. It is that period when the human heart is privileged to make an investment in others, and to see the gladsome response of those who have derived untold benefit through that experience. It is that period of time when the human spirit, made alive by the Spirit of God, may rise to the illimitable heights of divine favor and fellowship, and catch a glimpse of heaven. How dare anyone murder time! And yet, that is the expression which is so often used, even by the best of people, when they find themselves caught at an inopportune moment. They are heard to say, I am killing time.” Is it possible that they are murdering that which it took the Divine Creator to bring into existence, upon which He looked and called it ”good?” Is it possible that anyone would dare murder that which is measured out to us in such a small quantity that the passing hours, the days, the months, and the years reach perchance the paltry sum of 70 years? Is it possible that those fleeting moments are actually re¬ garded to be of such little value that one would not hesitate to cast them away without a tear? Is it possible that this infinitesimal span of time could be regarded as so worthless, that we would refuse to use it for the acquisition and application of wisdom? If not, then teach us to number our days that we may apply our hearts to wisdom.” 6
