Preface The preparation and publication of the VALLEY BIQGLE is at once both a pleasant and a sad undertaking for us, the Senior Class of 1953. Pleasant, because it brings to mind all the events of the past four years. which are to become our most precious memories: sad. because it means saying goodbye to those happy times and good friends, to the patient and long-suffering teachers who strove so valiantly to enlighten our clouded minds. We of the VALLEY BUGLE staff have decided upon 'sFeudalism for our theme because it provides an artistic and attractive background for our high school days. Like the serfs of that period who gradually worked their way upwards out of bondage, so do we progress out of our Dark Age as junior high students until that moment when, as Seniors, we reach our goal as graduates. The serfs of feudal times had to overcome the most difficult obstacles and adverse conditions in their upward climb towards freedom and knowledge. Fortunately for us today, our progress is limited only by our own desires and ambition. To aid us in our struggle we have our King's Council, represented by our Board of Education, who plan, direct and decide for the common good of all. Our able King and his Minister, Mr. Donald VVing and Mr. Lawrence Scura, guide us justly and well. Our most wise Royal Philosopher, Mr. Sidney Frost, advises us in our choice of courses and subjects. The Dukes and Duchesses, represented by our competent faculty, strive valiantly to instill in our minds that knowledge which will best benefit us in our chosen careers. To them we say. Thank you. IVe especially wish to acknowledge the splendid guidance and assist- ance of Ml's. Lydia Sever, Miss Inez Shippen and Mrs. Marianna YVonnacott, without which it would have been next to impossible to bring this VALLEY BUGLE to you.
