POET'S THOUGHTS When 1 have finished my poems, Then all my work will be done: l'll be able to sit lry the fire And watch the children have their fun. Or perhaps l might walk in my garden, And pluck a rose at first sight: Or count the stars in the evening On a cold winteris night. There is something I miss - But l know not what it is: lt seems like such a precious thing That has been lost in a mist. A mist that gathers in my eyes And shuts me from the world, just as the day l closed my hooks, And put them all away: Now dear God in Heaven Please hear me while I pray - - - Cast not the birds from my trees, Take not the perfume from the air, Let every child have a care And let him have a word offprayer, Please let us have a world of peace.
