In the Limelight Free Fare The band Free Fare gave two performances at our school last spring. A show was given the morning of Friday, May 16. The latest songs and a spoof of “Stars Wars” went over well, and everyone (with the possible excep- tion of the faculty) was sad it had to end. The second concert was on the night of Monday, May 19. A large crowd attended and there was standing room only. Featured among their songs were the works of Styx, Cheap Trick, and many other contemporary groups. 7 Above: “Babe I’m leaving . ..” Top left: And the beat goes on. Top right: Another episode of Star Wars.

The 1980 com- mencement exer- cises began with the processional of the graduates, each girl carrying a lovely flower. Mr. Mayo, Mr. Derrigo, and class representa- tives each spoke in turn of the suc- cesses and continu- ation of the fine Gouverneur tradi- tion. Diplomas were presented to the 189 graduates by President of the Board of Educa- tion, Alexander MacKinnon. 6

Rodger’s and Hammerstein’s “The King and I” The music and drama depart- ments, under the direction of Mrs. Marylou Johnson and Mr. Bruce McIntyre, did a brilliantly done production of “The King and I” last year. This was one of the greatest undertakings for a musi- cal in this community since “Marne.” The cast numbered 84, not including the multitudes enlisted for the full size orchestra, back-stage crew, make-up, etc. Henry Leader and Julie Jones led the cast as the king and Anna. The people involved rehearsed for two months before the production night of March 28 and 29. Other main cast members included Roberta McIntyre, Sarah Erd- man, Andrew Perry, Tim Carosi, Greg French, Paul Milne, Joe Peck, David Shaw, and Scott Gates. Julie Jones forces a nervous smile as one of the king’s wives (Nancy Connor) looks on. 8
