Band Day This year’s Band Day attracted a large number of bands, including organizations from as far away as Mexico, New York (who eventually captured a first place for marching excellence). The day’s activities started off with a colorful configuration of snares, trumpets, and flutes known as Massed Band. This served as a warmup for the rest of the day. After lunch came the twirling competition in which various col- orguard and twirling squads competed for such honors as top twirler, best unit, best major, and Majorette. Andrew Perry won the Best Drum Major Award for Gouvern- eur. For its efforts, the Gouverneur High School School marching band received an A-plus rating. Later in the evening came the formal marching competition in front of the grandstand. Band Day continues to be one of the highlights of the St. Law- rence County Fair.

Castles in the Sand The Junior Prom of 1980 was held on May 17 from 9 P.M. to 1 A.M. and proved to be a great success. At mid- night, the king and queen were crowned along with their court. William Hatch and Martha French were king and queen with Gerald Mannigan and Sue Sprague as prince and princess. Donald Mannigan and Lenore Griebsch were sophomore attendants, and Peter Cook and Karen Johnson were freshman attendants. The decorations were some of the best ever seen at a prom. Skat provided the final touch to the prom’s tropical air.
